It will come down a bit, but in the end about 70% or more of his shots will be 3s. That's what he does best, it's what makes him an efficient scorer. Didnt' stop him from winning rings.

Yeah saw this stat on ESPN the other night during one of their broadcasts. Only James Jones of Miami takes a higher percentage of his shots from behind the arc.

Well, you've been predicting him passing Hansbrough in the rotation for the past two weeks and it hasn't happened, so you're a bit of a broken record on this subject by now.

If you were a Spurs fan would you harass Popovich for his use of Bonner off the bench as well?

Well, pretty much all the staunch JOB haters, maintained that Posey would surpass Hans as soon as the opportunity presented itself. Directly referencing that if Hans got hurt and missed a game that would be a chance for Posey to move past Hans, well Hans missed a game during a time when Posey was playing well, and it still didn't happen.

This particular post was not a harassment of O'Brien. You got me, though, I don't like O'Brien, and anyone who reads even a few of my posts recognizes that, and I am not ashamed to admit that here, either.

I haven't followed the Spurs closely enough to know if Bonner has any significant remaining skills other than shooting the 3, which I gather from your post is his primary offensive function at this point in his career. Looking up his stats, as a career .409 shooter from the arc as a 7th year pro, he obviously hits shots when he is called upon to do so, and this season so far probably falls in "hot streak" territory in that he is currently shooting .833 from the arc, leading the league for the 4 games he has appeared in according to his player file at NBA.comhttp://www.nba.com/playerfile/matt_b...eer_stats.html.

I don't know how effective the rest of his game actually is, and what role he truly plays for the Spurs as what I assume is a backup for Duncan. I don't know enough about the remainder of his game to answer whether I would harass Popovich or not, but I would be less likely to harass him regardless because the Spurs are what the Pacers once were -- a franchise with a long history of consistent success for the vast majority of Popovich's time as coach. Popovich has far more credibility than O'Brien has ever had in my view, even prior to O'Brien's time here.

Posey is in his 12th year as a .352 shooter from the arc. He will have good games and poor games, and probably more poor shooting games than Bonner due to Bonner having less mileage on his body than Posey. If past performance is any indicator of future results with repect to the way O'Brien prefers his 4's to play, Posey will continue to pretty much just shoot 3's due to his no longer having the quickness to drive, probably if he shoots 30% or better this season. Otherwise, Posey may only get spot minutes as the season progresses as his legs start to lose some of their spring, and his shots lose what lift they currently have. Maybe he can develop a set shot like Smooth had to help ease his transition to the remainder of his career?

Let's all hold hands and give thanks that this is not really true.

So, rather than focus on the negative...you all know for a fact it could be worse.

Also, if Posey was going to be given the starting job at the 4, why not just do it to start the season? It's not like Josh was anointed as the heir apparent or something, the job was certainly up for grabs.

I think JOb will give the job to whoever deserves it at the moment...and to start the season it was wide open. He isn't a spectator and doesn't care to watch young players develop during games. He can watch a lot of that in practice. He probably figures that the player can earn the job during practice or short stints as the season progresses.

I do think Josh is losing his position....and that JOb is taking a long hard look at Posey and Hans. JOb wants to know who will win games *this* year...and he figures the summer and early fall is when players develop. Right now it's probably all about winning.

I would be perfectly fine with Hansbrough getting 26-30 minutes while Josh gets around 15 at both power forward and center. Posey sneaks in here and there as situational small forward and power forward depending on matchups. If he faces a hybrid or a back to basket guy I want him to get 20 minutes or more while if he is facing a faceup guy with quickness like Blake Griffin I don't really want to see him on the floor.

I didn't think that Hansbrough would be any good this season to be honest. I thought that he was going to have strange lingering injuries throughout his career and he was going to be a bust. However, I was obviously wrong. He has a 59% FG which is remarkable considering how bad it was last year. He looks like the same player from college, which is a very good, and sometimes scary for the opponent.

Does Posey remind anyone else of Sam Perkins? I think he plays the exact same kind of game. Just when I think he has no business being on the court he sort of validates himself.

No. Perkins was a legit "C" and post defender who in later years found a gimmick shooting the three and it extended his career. Look at his threepoint stats after he turned 32, after he joined the Sonics vs. his prime playing days with the Mavs and Lakers. First nine seasons, he shot > 33% once and never attempted more than 71 3FGA in a season.

Contrasted to his last 8 seasons, where he shot below 37% once and never attempted fewer than 218 3FGA in a season (except for the lockout year and his very limited last season under Isiah, which are clearly not representative.)

I definitely meant the Pacers version of Perkins. Sam Perkins in his prime was great.

Okay, but even then, Perkins' post defense was more valuable than his shooting. Especially since Smits had become non-existent in the post was just a 7'4" SF under Bird. (A damn fine 7'4" SF, of course.) It was fun to watch him shoot, because the guy he'd just clobbered and pushed out of the paint at the other end would have that look of, "are you kidding me? I've got to go out here and guard him?!?" every time he'd launch that flat-footed shot into the basket.

I don't know why people look at Posey and see Perkins. It seems a lot more logical to look at him and see Byron Scott.
