Default question about...not basketball but please help!

hey guys I know this isn't the appropriate place to ask, but I didn't know where else to! I'm applying for law schools for next year, and I was wondering, is Indiana University Indianapolis the same as IUPUI? Thanks in advance!

Well, I'm sure this will be moved to Market Square.

However, I do go to IUPUI. And to the best of my knowledge, IU Indianapolis is in fact IUPUI.

Applying for law school, you will want to apply to the IU School of Law which is located at Inlow Hall at IUPUI.

    Hope this helped.

If you need/want additional information about IUPUI, feel free to PM me.

I have a buddy that goes to the school of law in Indy, but there is also one in Bloomington. I think they are regarded similarly.

Also, your degree won't say IUPUI, it will be an IU degree.

There are minor differences here, but those aren't really minor.

Maurer School of Law in B-Town was the original Indiana University School of Law (Bloomington). There is also an Indiana University School of Law (Indianapolis) that gives a separate degree.

I'm not a former law school student, so I can't speak to how material ($$$) of a difference there is. I understand the Indianapolis program is highly regarded, but I'm not certain it is regarded as well as the Bloomington program. But that's not my field, so I'm not sure. I had business school cohorts that were also in the JD program in Indianapolis, so I know its not bad in any way -- just not sure the relative ranking vs. the Bloomington degree.

I also don't know how much overlap there is for instructors.

As a Kelley Graduate School of Business grad, I can tell you that my MBA transcript and degree doesn't designate which campus I was at. But the Business School was always a single school with two locations (and quite a few of the "Bloomington" business professors also taught in Indy), and the law school wasn't set up the same way. Neither of them (MBA or Law) are IUPUI degrees, even if that is the campus where you take classes. But it may still say "Indiana University - Indianapolis" (instead of "Indiana University") on your degree and transcript. Also, if you wanted a joint JD-MBA from Indiana, I believe your only choice was Indianapolis.

I hope the answers given to you by PD are helpful, but dig in and ask real students and real alumni - hopefully from both schools, so that you understand the differences.

Most importantly, good luck to you.

Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

Well, the "holy grail" of law school and human worth (US News LS rankings) puts IU at #27 and Indy at #86.

I transferred from a law school ranked about where Indy is ranked to one a bit higher than IU. I'd be happy to share my experiences and identify the differences in the two if you are interested.
