    Default Area 55 Broadcast

    Blue and Yellow Enthusiasts,

We are broadcasting the Cleveland game November 23rd from Area 55, and I'm toying with the idea of getting some of the 55'ers involved in the broadcast, albeit on a very limited basis.

Anyone have any suggestions or ideas that might work?

    Thanks,
    MJB

I think it's a cool idea, just curious how you will be able to cut out the noise from the section?

I would like to hear some interviews with some of the fans in the section. Simple questions, like when you became a fan, and why. Things like that.

Maybe a couple during the pre-game, and one or two during the game at some point, or even in the post game. Just hearing people's memories, with details that pertain only to them, makes me remember my own more vividly, and it brings out the sunshiner that's deep down just waiting to break out.

Well Nov. 23rd is a week away. That's plenty of notice to ask them to get there early.

If there are fines for vulgarity on the radio, your station may want to put some funds aside just in case if you're going to let A55'ers talk. Accidents happen. lol

    MJB,

I am glad to know you will be doing this. As an out of town listener, I had lots of questions about Area 55, some of which were addressed in a long thread: http://www.pacersdigest.com/showthre...highlight=area

I am interested in what the general demographic is of an Area 55, and whether the Section makes any discernable difference for the fan experience of those sitting elsewhere in the arena.

As for broadcast ideas, I would suspect that pre-recording and editing several different short interviews, though more time consuming, might be your best chance of finding a way to articulate to the listeners whatever message you have.

Thanks for taking the time to ask. Way to be part of the experience with us!!

Loudest sound at the mic wins.

Don't use omnis... (Omni mics pick up from all directions).
Keep mic close to the source (sound you want it to pick up... which with a headset is pretty easy for the announcer).
Speak loudly into the mic so that it doesn't require a lot of gain (lower gain will decrease its sensitivity to extraneous noise... but you need enough gain for the intended source so we're back to my first statement- Loudest sound at the mic wins).
The announcer's head makes a nice blocking device to helper filter sound behind the announcer.

And turn down the announcer's IFB so he has to talk louder to hear himself in the headset

Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.

I'm strangely intrigued about the possible hilarity that may ensue.....

I will advise to keep any crowd mics within your sight. I was calling a high school game when a 4 year old snuck down to press row during our post game coverage and grabbed the crowd mic. I think the ensuing calamity is still a piece of some of the station's bumpers..... Of course this was about a week after the brawl, it was a bad week for basketball security I guess.
