A popular sports radio talk show host has sold his life story to CBS for a sitcom deal.

A project based on ESPN talk show host Colin Cowherd was picked up by the network.

His radio show, The Herd with Colin Cowherd, is a syndicated program is known for Cowherd's obnoxious commentary that sometimes results in headline-making arguments with players and fans.

Cowherd drew blogger outrage a few years ago after using a Web site's comedy bit without credit, then writing back to the author, "WE WERE SENT IT....WE HAD NO IDEA..BUT THE INCESSANT WHINING...MEANS I WON'T GIVE YOU CREDIT NOW..GET OVER IT." Earlier this year, Bengals receiver Chad Ochocinco bashed the host on Twitter after the player was singled out by Cowherd when noting "70% of the NFL and NBA players are broke within five years of retirement." Ochocinco wrote that Cowherd should "just say I don't like this black guy," then added "your girl is cheating on you."

The Cowherd script sold as a multi-camera comedy to CBS, with writers Bill Martin and Mike Schiff attached (Hank, Grounded For Life), as well as executive producers Eric and Kim Tannenbaum (Two and a Half Men).

It makes sense that CBS would do this after the success of Listen Up!...

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Damon Wayans may be returning to series television. The comedian has finalized a deal to headline the CBS TV Studios multi-camera comedy pilot set at a sports radio station.

The pilot is written by Bill Martin and Mike Schiff ("Grounded for Life") and is inspired by acerbic ESPN personality Colin Cowherd. Wayans' character is named Nick Herd.

Andy Cadiff ("Hot in Cleveland," "Rules of Engagement," "My Wife and Kids") will direct the pilot.

Martin, Schiff and Cowherd will executive produce with Eric and Kim Tannenbaum ("Running Wilde," "Two and Half Men") whose Tannenbaum Co. is set up at CBS Studios with a three-year overall deal.

Danny Comden ("Dirt," "Urban Legend") has also joined the cast as the manipulative producer of Herd's show.

Wayans - who hails from the famous comedic family behind "In Living Color" - has built a career as an actor and comedian as well as a producer and director. His on-screen include ABC's "My Wife and Kids" and the Showtime sketch comedy series "The Underground." He also headlined a string of features including "Major Payne" and "The Last Boy Scout."

In her first regular comedy gig, Eliza Dushku is set as the female lead opposite Damon Wayans in CBS' untitled sports radio show pilot. The multicamera comedy, from veteran writer-producers Bill Martin and Mike Schiff, is inspired by ESPN personality Colin Cowherd’s outspoken sports talk show. It centers on Nick (Wayans), an egotistical sports-radio host with a quick wit and cocky likability who is adored by his fans. Dushku will play Nick's radio cohort Casey, a fun, quick-witted gal who is socially oblivious and pathologically blunt. Dushku, repped by UTA and The Collective, is best known for her roles on dramas Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Tru Calling and Dollhouse. She recently guest starred on another CBS multicamera comedy, The Big Bang Theory.
