FOXBOROUGH, Mass -- With New England Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski sidelined after his leg tightened in Sunday's loss to the Cleveland Browns, the Patriots have summoned free-agent Shayne Graham to town as his replacement, according to an NFL source.

Barring an unexpected change, Graham will sign with the team and be the kicker for Sunday's game against the Steelers, and perhaps beyond, depending on Gostkowski's recovery.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick gave no update on Gostkowski's status during a conference call with the media on Tuesday.

The Patriots are also making a change at long snapper, bringing in Matt Katula to replace Jake Ingram, according to Katula's agent.

Katula will sign a two-year contract.

The 28-year-old Katula snapped for the Baltimore Ravens from 2005 to 2009.

Ingram, a 2009 sixth-round draft choice out of Hawaii, has been sporadic this season. His most recent struggles came Sunday in Cleveland when one of his long snaps bounced in front of punter Zoltan Mesko, who is also the team's holder.

The Patriots had Graham in for a workout in October, so he was high on their emergency list.

Graham, 32, is no stranger to Pittsburgh's Heinz Field from his time with the Cincinnati Bengals (2003-2009). Overall, he has an 85.2 percent success rate over his career.

Graham was in training camp this year with the Ravens, losing a competition with Billy Cundiff. He spent one game with the New York Giants this season -- a Week 6 win over Detroit -- filling in for the injured Lawrence Tynes and going 4 of 4 on extra points. He also had five kickoffs in that game, with one touchback.

The Patriots will have to make a roster move to create room for Graham.

Gostkowski to injured reserve with a torn quad muscle.

Hurts them a lot due to being one of the best in the league at delivering touchbacks.

The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)
