Thread: Michael Vick says don't do it!

Default Michael Vick says don't do it!

PG just tweeted that he's getting a pit bull from some super sketchy looking dood...

    http://plixi.com/p/53604000

I'm not really sure why, but this makes me nervous.

A lot of people own pit bulls. Not everyone kills them after they don't win a fight.

Not everyone has pitbulls to fight them... that said, dog fighting is so wrong. I would hope the Pacers players wouldn't be that cruel and twisted.

Pitbulls can be very gentle animals, it's all how you raise the dog.

I own a pitbull, and they aren't a breed you want to have questions about.

You need to be sure about who you buy them from, because if they're a breeding line, then you're going to get a super-aggressive dog, that will cause you problems.

Mine is about 19mons, and he's a handful for me and my two roommates. He thinks he can do what he wants, when he wants. If that means going down stairs and taking a dump on our basement floor, eventhough we are literally sitting 5ft from the front door so we can take him out, he does it. (We've had to put in baby gates at the stairs so he won't go down)

Last night, while sitting on the couch watching TV, he started eating my roommates sock while he was laying next to him. Just tore it apart in a matter of seconds.

We had to barricade the couch off. It's a reclining dual set, so there was a gap between the back of the couch, and the wall. He thought it made a good den. That's a bad idea, because they are EXTREMELY territorial.
(Like if you happened to drop something back there, or it got kicked back there, you'd better be ready for a fight. He'd snap at you for just reaching back there. He's never bitten any of us, but you gotta be ready to show him that you're the alpha dog in the house. He routinely gets put in his cage for snapping)

If you're going to buy off a breeder, you'd better know as much as possible about them. You could get a great dog, a monster, or somewhere inbetween. But you'd better know which, because even at 50lbs, they have the ability to take your life.

I love the dog to death, but if I could do it all over again, I wouldn't take him. They're just handful.

I'm sure genetic disposition is a part of it, but don't you think alot of how any dog behaves is mostly in how you raise it? Whether you can give the dog stern obedience training as a puppy etc...

Alot of folks who have no clue about owning a dog get a pitbull because it's "cool". These inevitably are failures.

Is this seriously a topic? He bought a pitbull. That has absolutely nothing do with Michael Vick or dog fighting.

And what's so "sketchy" looking about the guy bought it from? He's overweight and has his hat on backwards. Oh lord, ring the alarms. That guy HAS to be shady.

So one day we are talking about "the hot hand" and now we are talking about pitbulls? Can we keep talking about the JOB subject please?

No, not always. We most certainly do not let him go to the bathroom inside the house, yet he continually does it. We have him on a set schedule for eating and bathroom, but if he feels the urge and doesn't want to wait, he won't.

They require a lot more detail and attention than normal dogs. It's not their fault, they've been bred to fight for almost a 100 years. (They used to fight bears for entertainment back when)

I'm not saying all of them are bad, but they definately have tendancies that pop up, regardless of how they're trained.

ya the dude who is holding the dogs looks pretty sheisty (sp?!) though...i mean would you buy a used car from him?

point being...not exactly a reputable looking breeder...it seems like it would be at best a toss up about whether he would get a managable dog...not to mention that there are plenty of pit bulls in shelters to get instead of adding to the problem....

He's looking for a puppy. I'm not sure what shelters you know about but most of the ones I know of don't typically have puppy pitbulls. If they have pitbulls at all, they're typically full grown dogs with all of their bad habits in tow.

Geez. Thread would be locked by now if this guy was black. Apparently anyone who both wears a backwards hat and raises pitbulls is not to be trusted.

This thread is more evidence of just how paranoid and ridiculous some Pacers fans are. Somehow Paul George buying a pitbull made a Pacers fan nervous.

In the words of Tyler Hansbrough, WOW!!

I think you guys are taking my posts wrong. I haven't even looked at the picture of the guy, nor saw anything other than what was OP. I'm just saying, anyone you think is sketchy, you probably shouldn't be buying a dog from.

Not saying this guy is, just a general rule.

Check with the breeder's vet. If he doesn't endorse them or they don't have one, pass.

Hey, I was wrong, this breeder is a good dood. He said he would crop the puppy's ears for PG free of charge!

Seriously though, I just thought the photo in the OP was kinda funny with the way the guy was holding the dogs by their scruffs and looking at them like they were pieces of meat, so I posted it. I didn't mean for this to turn into soapbox-fest 2010. My bad.

lol. The picture of his dad would be black male material for any fighting dog(to cute to be tough). Really you clarified that his shady comments had to do with holding the dogs by the back of the neck (like there mom would), it doesn't look like the nicest way to handle a dog though. The thread went south but I don't think you became the bad guy. Oh and fyi title of this thread is awful and just asking for it to be taken badly.

Lets hope the ears aren't cropped by his owner with a pair of sissors. Franklin had a pit a couple years ago done that way!! A good cropping job costs hundreds of dollars.

I also hope PG isn't getting a Pit off of Craigslist! They are daily advertised on there. Backyard breeders galore. Those that beed for greed.

I'm glad I have a cat. And not one of those cats bred to fight.
