Here's my takeaway: the Miami Heat played terribly and still had a chance to win this ballgame. They'll be fine. In fact, they'll be better than fine.

Boston generally plays close games. The final score really doesn't phase me either way. Miami was set up to lose this one.

What I took away was, Erik Spoelstra might be in over his head. That was some amazingly unimaginative offense. Nothing but isolations. And then that idiotic quote about how LeBron, Bosh and Wade have great chemistry in practice. Really? Your three megastars look like the picture of dominance against the minimum salary guys you hired to basically carry their luggage on road trips?

Watching Chris Bosh gave me Antawn Jamison flashbacks. Tell your 20/10 PF to go stand off to the side and eat up table scraps, while the other team goes right at him defensively.

Bosh might be the highest paid 12/9 guy in the NBA by the time the year is over. Neither Wade nor LeBron looked interested in sharing with the rest of the class.

The looked pretty out of snych last night. Bosh was very ineffective, wade was off of his game, and Lebron was trying to do it all and taking some bad shots.

I loved the 2 first half alley oops Rondo had to Shaq. Rondo really makes his teamates look a lot better.

not playing with LeBron also made Shaq look better.

I thought Bosh played very well defensively last night. Almost every shot Garnett took was contested. Good help-defense too.

Spoelstra was impressive last season. No reason to believe he's not up to the job. They looked bad offensively yesterday, but they should improve quickly: Wade+Bosh+LeBron have played together in the US team and most of their role-players were already there last season. It seems to me he's going to stick with a rotation to start the season, not caring for matchups - that hurt him yesterday, but makes sense to get players comfortable. It's still too early for a must win approach to games.

What I didn't like was the amount of time-outs he called in the first half. I hate when coaches do that.

The Lakers should start Blake. The Rockets offense looked great in the 1st half but not so much in the 2nd. Adelman screwed up calling that play to end the game - Brooks is too small to be a baseline driver with so little time in the clock. Easy play to block/alter shot.

JONeal vacated that spot last season....so someone had to take up the mantle of being the highest paid 12/9 PF in the league

This is David West, he is the Honey Badger, West just doesn't give a *****....he's pretty bad *ss cuz he has no regard for any other Player or Team whatsoever.

Cleveland still got the same defense they had last year, they are not looking that bad

They only have one above average defensive player + 2 massive liabilities in Jamison and Williams. I think they'll be below average defensively this season, possibly well below average.

I wish Ben Wallace was playing for a contender. Still a lot of basketball left in him. Brook Lopez getting frustrated with the Pistons defense. Favors is really aggressive, I like how he attacks the basket quickly after rebounding the ball.

I like this Farmar+T. Williams backcourt.

They are not playing Williams and Jamison together, Jamison is coming of the bench I think.

By the way Iguadola is still playing the same D he played during the world tournament

Yeps, Hickson is starting thankfully. He's another poor defender, but at least he can improve in the short run. Jamison is better suited for a 6th man role. And Mo Williams too, I'd consider bring him off the bench as well.

Favors working the boards well. Going to switch to the Hornets vs Bucks now, two teams worth checking.

Yeah defense doesnt look good atm against Boston. Nice effort, but just not good enough. JJ Hickson looks like a beast though.

If i had to bet though, Id still bet they finish ahead of us. Because of better coaching if nothing else. And their crowds should still be way better than usual crowds of bottom 10 teams.

They are only five points down against a team that is going to compete for a championship

Well im talking about the game, not the boxscore. Boston is getting any shots they want, just aren't making some of them. + Boston had a few offensive violations. Cleve is really in the game because of Hickson and Sessions on offense now, not their team defense.

Edit - Still, they'll probably won't be in the bottom on defense this year (probably around the middle), at least till they keep this effort.

I just pointing that out because I been saying that I don't think they are as bad as people think. I agree with what you are saying tough.

by the way Varejao is still a pain in the a$$.

How bad do you think the Cavs are gonna be?

    Who's been guarding Bargnani? Stoudemire?

Bogut looks like he's moving fine. That thing on his arm looks ugly though.

Not as bad as we think. To take a page from Bill Simmons, I think they might have some "Ewing Theory" potential. Wouldn't be shocked at all to see them end up with a better record than the Pacers.

Not sure who was guarding Bargnani(he was one of my pick for MIP)

I think Cleveland is going to be better than the Pacers, they have a chance to make it to the playoffs(7th, 8th)

    Yeah Bogut is looking good

In paper they are better than many other teams, they have a good coach and also play good D.

In another note my guy Turner is looking good today, not shooting much but is doing everything else.
