Default The New LeBron James Commercial

Say what you want about Nike (and Lebron, for that matter), but they are marketing geniuses.

It would be a genius of Lebron to actually "Just Do It" instead of making a big deal out of everything and everything someone says about him...

I find it interesting that the majority of his teamates love him to death

everyone outside of his "inner circle" cant seem to stand him

I heard he once corrected a cheerleader for mispronouncing his first name , while waiting to check into a game
Sittin on top of the world!

Nice commercial. Its the anti-hero theme that todays youth seem to connect with. Not sure why, but being the good guy isn't really that cool with today's young people.

I thought this was an excellent commercial. It gives the appearance he is admitting to his blunders, without him actually admitting any sort of fault at all. The underlying message I received was, "it is your fault you find me shallow".

I think you guys are reading into this all wrong.

I think he's just simply saying that no matter what he does, it's going to be wrong. So he's doing what he wants to do, to please himself because that's all that's under his control. Which is a simple truth for everyone.

The amazing thing is that people say he's full of it, and they generally hate him, but tomorrow nights game vs. the Celtics is gonna get huge ratings all over the country and even in Cleveland.

As far as commercials go, it's pretty good.

But really, he needs to let go of it. He only provokes the issue by making commercials like this.

Which is a good thing for Lebron.

I hate him, but I love to hate him. I used to just hate him because he is a whiner and he's two faced. Now I love to hate him because he's got that bullseye and people all around the world, especially in Cleveland, want to see him epically fail.

And there is no way I am missing that game. I want to see them lose by 40 and see him cry. And now Lebron likes that, compared to him trying to be the good guy.

And that is what he wants everyone to think.

I really don't think so. I think it's only natural to watch the player or teams you don't like, especially on a National stage. "Know Thy Enemy", they say. Hell, I am a "hater*" of the Yankees, but I watched every game of that ALCS, and reveled in their failure. I think I cheered just as hard for the Texas Rangers as I did for my Cincinnati Reds this season. Deep down, you want to see them fail. Or, as will more likely happen, people will want something to ***** about.

And in terms of today's youth being the anti-hero, while I would be considered today's youth, hasn't it been like this since before I was even born? I mean, Barkley's "I'm not a role model" commercial came out in the early-to-mid 90's, right? That's at the heart of Generation X, if I do believe. I have a hard time believing that it's my generation that's all of a sudden decided to embrace the bad guy.

*I hate that word, by the way. No one can criticize or say 1 damn thing negative anymore without being called a "hater". If there's one thing you can say about my generation, it's us using the term "Aw, youz just a hater" as a cop-out. Many people spew that line out instead of actually reading into the criticism itself for the fear that some parts might indeed be true.

Even though they hate him, they're still interested. It was the same thing with the Brock Lesnar UFC fight over the weekend. A lot of people really despise Lesnar but it was a very popular and widely seen match. It's that emotional attachment that gets the viewers.

I like the new commercial though. I think everybody goes through what he does on some level of the constant voices coming from family, friends, enemies, everyone in between, the media, etc telling us what's right or wrong or best for our own interest. But shouldn't we decide what's in OUR own best interest? All of these analysts had their chance to speak out in public and bash LeBron, here is his way of saying shut up.

This is what I pretty much got out of it. While I love Barkley a million times more than LeBron I thought the little poke at Barkley was funny.

It seems rushed like Santa Clause 3 (if anyone has seen those movies).*

It would have been better if he was just scrimmaging dudes and tearing them up without any regret, then say, "no one's going to stop me" or something. That would have made me mad if that is what Nike was going for.

*Santa Clause the first one is very laid back but after that it goes wild and beserk. I thought 2 and 3 were going to be good obviously I was wrong IMO.

I only watched it cause I caught Tony and Wilbon talking about it, and Mike kept saying he "killed Jordan". He poked fun at MJ and Charles, but he didn't kill anybody. Just him propping up his ego, which is to be expected. "I don't care what you think of me, as long as you think about me. And buy my shoe."

I think that this commercial reinforces the fact that the "Decider" is the single most arrogant athlete in sports today, and I believe that he is being woefully mismanaged with respect to his image, and that his arrogance will start to turn casual fans away from the NBA if he continues down this path. He is basically saying **** you to the entire nation with that piece in my opinion.

I love it because it is literally almost begging the fates to intervene with an epic implosion. I cannot wait for the implosion to begin. I want that implosion to happen almost as much as I want Jim O'Brien to be fi...

    Whew, that was close.

I concur that he is going to do what he wants. But saying he is like everyone else in the extent to which he does that seems like a stretch. In my opinion.

    Narcissistic Personality Disorder:
A condition characterized by an inflated sense of self-importance, need for admiration, extreme self-involvement, and lack of empathy for others. Individuals with this disorder are usually arrogantly self-assured and confident. They expect to be noticed as superior. Many highly successful individuals might be considered narcissistic. However, this disorder is only diagnosed when these behaviors become persistent and very disabling or distressing.

Here's why I think it sucks:

Camera cuts are quick and terrible.

What is the message that is being conveyed?

Why should this make me want to buy Lebrons James or Nike apparel?

Am I supposed to get the feel of being epic? Instead all I get is a kid dressing up in different costumes.

There's nothing in there that gives the sense of scale of what could be accomplished with Wade and Bosh, instead it's all about Lebron, and he's not very good at selling himself at that.

It missed the mark on pretty much all marketing principles IMO, other than generating conversation. Which let's be honest, Nike and Lebron don't have to work that hard to do.

Just a terrible commercial IMO, I wonder what they were thinking when they conceived it. What is the MESSAGE?

People here and everywhere are talking about the commercial. That is what the message is.
