    Default Basketball Preference?

Hey folks, random question for ya. I'm looking into buying a new basketball as I normally play at a gym here on the South Side and have gotten tired of using their terrible excuses for basketballs.

What I'm looking for is a nice, solid ball that isn't necessarily cheap but isn't going to cause me to break the bank, either. I don't know what's good or what's not anymore, but I've heard a lot of people praise balls made by Wilson, but all the ones I've played with have seemed to be made out of carpet on the outside instead of leather. Am I just not playing with the right ball from them? I've not played many games with a Nike ball, but from what I've experienced just with shoot-around with them is that they don't have much traction as others. And I've heard alot of people talk crap about Spalding and the Authentic NBA Game Balls, as well. However, every time I've played with them, they have felt great (TWSS). In fact, and I know this might sound weird, but I had an instance a few years ago where I got to play with the infamous Spalding Cross Traxxion NBA Ball. Remember this little beauty?

I thought it was fantastic. I understand that it was supposedly cutting NBA players' hands up and stuff, but the other complaints about awkward touch and difficult in dribble control didn't seem to apply when I played. Thought it was a nice ball.

    Any suggestions?

I ball with Never flat by Spalding the leather one. It is around $50 indoor/ outdoor. I dont like that ball u have a picture of because when u sweet it gets really slick. Mine is like the ball the NBA use to have. I only use Leather but i think mine was worth $50. I only bought never flat because i ball outside more than inside. Anything from Spalding is good.

I have always hated the NBA balls. I found them much harder to grip, but I didn't play with them often. I've heard from multiple NBA players that they too hated them at first but as they played with them more they got used to it. I never got used to it.

I prefer the Wilson Evolution balls to anything else out there. Check them out.

I actually bought that Spalding nba ball you pictured, and like playing with it. That was until someone broke into my car and stole my gym bag with it in it.
As for an everyday use ball at a reasonable price, you can't go wrong with the Wilson Evolution. That is the ball we used in High School and currently in our Saturday basketball league at the Monon Center in Carmel. You shuold check out our website: www.generaltsosbasketball.com
Its a league a few college buddies and I have put together and is really fun, and we are always looking for more players.

I eventually wore the leather off my ABA game ball, so I replaced it with one of these when I had our court installed a couple years ago. I prefer our our Larry O'Brien game ball (dark brown leather, not the bright orange of the David Stern era) but Dad still won't let me use it on an outside court.

Pretty good quality ball for a recreational ball price.
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

Like two others have said, Wilson Evolution is the way to go.

And Hailey, my GF lives just down the road from the Center but I'm not down there enough to get in a league. Is there guys that play pickup games on weekends?

Sorry to get off of the main subject. But again Evolution, I use the pacers $10 off on the back of the ticket at Dicks and got mine for $40 I think. May have been less but had to get my total above $50 to use the discount.

I think they play a lot at the Monon Center during lunch weekdays. Weekends not so much, since they raised the prices to get in. I mostly play downtown at NIFS, when I get off work. Our leauge has taken alot of the guys who used to play on the weekends at the Monon, they are beginning to join our league instead, since we only charge $35 for about 10 games and a playoff, keep stats, and many other cool things that no other league would even think about doing.

Real leather won't last outdoors- the surface gets too cut up/rough on asphalt or concrete. Save it for inside only and go with a nice Spaulding or Wilson synthetic indoor/outdoor for outside play.

I'm not a fan of the tacky grip surface ball types, as they are fine at first but then they don't wear well and get too slick.
The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)

Looks like we're in the minority.

But yeah, I loved that ball. I can't find them ANYWHERE online. Not even on Ebay or Amazon.

We play pickup there every Tuesday and Thursday night. Usually get started around 6.

    Don't know about weekends.
