Default Curtis Jerrells worth 2nd round pick?!

    http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=17637
The San Antonio Spurs have traded reserve point guard Curtis Jerrells to the New Orleans Hornets in exchange for a second-round pick, sources tell HOOPSWORLD.

Last season, Jerrells was called up from San Antonio's NBA Development League affiliate, the Austin Toros, but he didn't appear in any games for the Spurs. He has turned heads in San Antonio this season after playing well during training camp and preseason action. In five games, he has averaged 6.4 points and 2.2 assists in just over fifteen minutes per game.

The point guard will be reunited with Dell Demps in New Orleans. Demps was general manager of the Toros for three seasons and watched Jerrells develop into one of the NBDL's top players. Jerrells will likely be the second-string point guard behind Chris Paul with Mustafa Shakur moving into a combo guard role.

Jerrells is on a flight to Memphis now and will join the Hornets tomorrow night when they take on the Grizzlies.
Can't we just do the same thing for Solo?

Solo's contract is twice as much.

There is a story behind this-

Dell Demps, the new Hornets GM- was a part of the Spurs organization- including the D-League part, which is the Austin Toros.

Jerrels and Gee were players that he personally wanted to see get developed- in fact it wouldn't surprise me if Gee- if he's cut by the Spurs- ends up on the Hornets Roster.

In any case- Jerrels was not going to make the spurs roster- they have groomed Garret Temple to be the 3rd PG and he is probably a better fit for the Spurs due to the size he has and that he is a defensive PG whereas Jerrels is more offensive.

Anyway, you could read more about it here:

Send Solo to the Clippers for a future 2nd round pick.

They need another big man and tend to make small deals like this.

I read last week that Josh Boone was thinking about signing in China. The Clippers could get Boone by signing him and not giving up a 2nd for Solo. IIRC, Boone can play the 4 & 5 and averaged around 5 rebs last year for the Nets.

I like Boone. He's a good player to have on your bench.

I was surprised no one signed him earlier.

I've followed both these guys in the D-League last season and I've always preferred Temple for those reasons - great defensive versatility.

Jerrells is more talented, but he was a sieve with the Toros.

The Spurs got the Clippers 2014 2nd rounder - second time that pick was traded for a 3rd string point-guard.

In regards to Boone, he's a quality rebounder, but a major liability offensively+defensively. He doesn't belong in a NBA roster. Maybe as a deep reserve, but there are better guys available.

I think he's a better fit for the roster too- especially with his height and his wingspan. He seems like he could cover for the bigger players that Hill can't guard.
