Default Basketball is all about the team.

Basketball is all about the team.

Of the three major professional sports, basketball is the best sport with the greatest fans. We get into an every other day routine of watching, reading and talking about the game. Basketball like all sports, it has a simple concept of scoring more points than the opponent but what sets us apart are the nuances.

Baseball is a good sport. When you are a kid you can play little league. You learn the fundamentals of throwing, catching and hitting. Most anyone can play baseball. You do not have to be big, strong, or fast to play. If you know your position you can be easily plugged in on a team. When you get older softball is nice because it's slow paced and doesn't take much out of you physically. It's perfect to take kids to the ballpark because of the atmosphere and it's something they can easily relate to.

To be a good baseball fan you must watch your team almost every day. It's a very stat oriented sport because not much happens from moment to moment. The pitch count builds your anticipation and you get a release when the batter hits the ball.

Football is a young man's game. To play you need a combination of strength and speed. You have only a small window of opportunity to play because it is so physically demanding. Then you spend most of your time concentrating only on one side of the ball.

It doesn't take much to be a football fan. You only get one game a week. You could spend four hours a week watching and reading football and know 90% of what is going on. That leaves 164 hours in the week to pretend you are a big fan of sports.

Basketball has all the elements to be the best sport. The act of playing basketball is a workout in itself. Exercising can be boring but not if you have a basketball. Just the fundamental dribbling and shooting can keep you fit for a lifetime.

Basketball is the ultimate team sport. Five guys working together are more than the sum of their parts. In this game you have to play offence and defense. Everyone must be able to shoot, dribble, pass and rebound or you will get exposed.

To watch a basketball game is poetry in motion. A novice fan focuses only on the ball but if you can widen your field of vision to encompass all ten players with respect to the ball then you can appreciate the game much better. Movement without the ball is more important because only one guy can have the ball at a time so what about the other nine guys.

Basketball is also the most gratifying to be a fan of. Every 24 seconds something has to happen. Every game you get about a hundred chances to cheer either good or bad.

The tactics of basketball is also like no other. It's so easy and fun to scrutinize. Even if you watch the whole game live, you do not get the whole picture until you read the boxscore and watch the game tape. In resent years novice fans have got better at appreciating advanced statistics such as +/-, PER & usg.

Football is all about the quarterback and baseball it's all about the pitcher. Basketball is all about the team.

However, the one thing that can be said about football is that every game seems like life and death to the hopes of making the playoffs. With baseball and basketball there are so many games that a sense of urgency is not always there.
You know how hippos are made out to be sweet and silly, like big cows, but are actually extremely dangerous and can kill you with stunning brutality? The Pacers are the NBA's hippos....Matt Moore CBS Sports....

Yes, good points. A football game is an event. It appeals to a large audience. Eight games a year doesn't break the bank.

Many people enjoy the Final Four because it's one and done. When march madness comes around the sense of urgency is at a peek.

Baseball is a every day grind. Football is more hype than substance. Basketball has an every other day pace. Win or lose in a couple of days you get to go at it again.
