How do you resize them? I'm getting frustrated trying to figure this out. I'm using a personal picture thats already on my computer. Any help?

You either need to resize it using photo-editing software on your computer, or using a website that will resize images for you.

Our avatars must be no higher than 250 pixels and no wider than 175 pixels.

Just googling for a second, but this seems like it might do what you need:

You can use Paint (standard on every PC I've had for the last two decades) - the stretch/skew feature.

For example, if you have a picture (generally a jpeg file) that it 500 pixels high and 300 pixels wide, just open it in paint, go to "Images", select "Stretch/Skew", and put both vertical and horizontal to 50%. This will reduce it to 250 high by 150 wide. Save as new name if you want to keep the original.

There could be some distortion if you're shrinking it down too far, but I think that's a problem with pretty much every package.
