Indianapolis - The popular fast-food chain with a Cajun flair is now out of business in Indianapolis.

Five Popeye's Chicken and Biscuits restaurants have shut down. All of them were operated by local franchisee Will Pace.

The restaurants were located on West 38th street, East 38th Street, two locations on Washington and another on 46th Street.

Officials with the Atlanta-based company say policy prohibits them from commenting on the reason for the closures. But they do say they hope to re-open in the city under a new franchisee.

The Popeye's location operated by another franchisee in Whitestown remains open.

I admit I haven't been to one in nearly 3 years(there's not one close enough to me since I moved to the north side) but I can't believe it would actually leave either...

Weren't these the same restaurants that failed to pay a bunch of taxes?

    :EDIT: http://www.theindychannel.com/news/24356643/detail.html

Yeah, and that would explain why...

Wow I didn't know that explains a lot now... its a popular franchise so I don't get how it could be under financial trouble. But really how hard is it to pay taxes?

Well if you dont run your business correctly its pretty hard. Businesses typically have to pay taxes every quarter. So you have to hold back a certain amount of money just for taxes. So if you start dipping into that tax amount, you start to not be able to pay it.

Move them to Terre Haute immediately!!! They'd get a tax break right off the bat and, most importantly, I could eat the biscuts and red beans and rice whenever I wish! I LOVE me some Popeyes!

"But, first, let us now praise famous moments, because something happened Tuesday night in Indianapolis that you can watch a lifetime’s worth of professional basketball and never see again. There was a brief, and very decisive, and altogether unprecedented, outburst of genuine officiating, and it was directed at the best player in the world, and that, my dear young person, simply is not done."

Maybe they would have made more money if all of their locations weren't in bad areas.

Maybe but while I lament there was never one in the Castleton area there's probably less competition in those areas anyways..

    Remember these:

    Bennigans?
    Burger Chef?
    Steak and Ale?
    ChiChi's?
    Howard Johnson's?

All defunct. Restaurants come and go pretty often. It is really more unusual for a restaurant to stay in the same place for 10 years than for it to last as long as Popeye's has done.

What do you mean by "bad areas?" Because I think you are describing their marketing strategy. You'll never see a Dollar General in Circle Center Mall, either, but they do pretty well in small towns.

    Remember...Burger Chef?

    .
I remember both Burger Chef AND Jeff! I even remember the Burger Chef birdhouses that were so prevalent back in the day. My brother worked there for a short time and we got end of the day leftovers frequently. Yum!

I used to live right around the corner from the one on Wheeling in Muncie, and immediately behind Burger King (that, ironically enough, later became a Popeyes before it, too, closed, and has re-opened as Popeyes again). The circle of life...

Popeye's as a brand has been very specific about what areas they will open restaurants. It has everything to do with the demographics of the surrounding areas, and very little to do with the safety in the surrounding areas.

Very true, the Popeye's that was at Sherman and Washington Street had bullet proof glass when I was a kid back in the early 90's.
