Default USA v Lithuania Exhibition Game Thread

USA Lithuania currently on ESPN (as of 3 EST).

All Lithuania early, very physical game, and their guards are getting to the hoop uncontested. Maybe should've had a few big men on the team after all.

Danny quiet so far, had one charge.

Even though their down right now I like the aggressiveness of Granger. He looks more active in general.

We're really struggling in the half-court, Lithuania is very, very physical. They look like the Knicks in the 90's - lots of hand checking, bumping, pushing. Guess that's legal in FIBA.

And our D sucks. Guys just driving past us on the perimeter, getting to the basket uncontested. Terrible.

14-7 Lithuana at the end of the first.

This team just isn't very good. If we finish higher than 4th I'll be surprised.

C'mon, if this were an NBA team they'd be considered a title contender. Durant-Rondo-Billups-Rose-Granger-Odom. It's not the Dream Team but they're a talented squad.

Think we should still do OK. They're just not used to the physicality, and they're heavy footed right now. That might change as they get comfortable.

And I still think they'll win this game. Just need to change the tempo a bit.

They remind me of the pre-Redeem team groups. Poor in the half court, no interior presence, not a whole lot of size advantage overall, and mediocre outside shooting. I just don't see it with this group. We really needed 2-3 of the guys from the Olympic team to play this year IMO.

Edit: This is an opinion I've held for a while now. Their play against Lithuania doesn't matter to me. It's the first game in Madrid and they're getting used to the physical style of play. I just don't think the ceiling for this team is very high.

What you are seeing is a team that has only practiced together a handful of times. So all they do is do what they know how to do individually.

This team still has plenty of talent, and players to exploit the international game. So long as Durant is the unquestioned alpha dog, team USA should be fine.

Also, between Rondo, Rose and Westbrook, this has the potential to be the best perimeter defense team USA has ever had.

They need a clear #2 guy to step up, though. Granger would be a great fit, but so would Joe Johnson or Rudy Gay.

They will be fine in the end theres only a couple teams that can chalenge them.

Rose really looked like a poor defensive player in the NBA to me.

Anyway im surprised how the game is going, our national team is really poor with lots of top player declining to play this year, but i expect a collapse in 2nd half when USA start making some shots.

They're still the most talented team in the tournament which will give them a chance to win every game.

Oh I wouldn't want Rose as my lead defender either, but put him in a press as the 2nd or 3rd guy, and he'd be awesome off the ball.

Chandler has a very good understanding of how to play defense in the paint in international basketball.

Because he isn't able enough to do anything but stand there with his hands up and bump people.

3 years ago he would have swatted both of those shots.

Maybe so, but he definitely understands that you can lean into people and not get a foul called.

I'd rather have Westbrook than Rondo to be honest.

I'd like to see us not let them get to the rim 20 straight times first.

I understand what you're saying about a potentially strong perimeter defense, but currently they're a flat-out terrible perimeter team. Gawd-awful.

Well, the issue is that they are throwing too many guards out there at once. They need to thin out the rotation some.

Did you watch the first half and the first 4 minutes of this quarter? They were great on defense.
