Default Nets fans are certainly happy to have Murphy

Some quotes from Nets fans about Murphy:

"Murphy is PERFECT for what we need at the 4 right now. Consistent scoring away from the basket which still leaves room for Brook to operate down low."

"I like this deal alot. Troy Murphy is the perfect guy for us to get and hold down the 4 until the time comes that Favors is ready for serious minutes."

"What a deal, we clearly get the PF we've been looking for the last 10 years. We don't give up anything to get him... Unbelievable."

"This is a wonderful trade for the us. You get a 3pt shooting PF who rebounds efficiently."

    "Troy Murphy... Poor man's Dirk"

"It's good to have a 3rd big. Lakers have Bynum-Gasol-Odom. Seems to work. Don't be so quick to give away good players. Correct me if im wrong but as of this very second isn't Murphy the 3rd best Net?"

lol ... well, whatever floats your boat. I'll enjoy watching the other team's dunks over murphy on ESPN highlights every morning (as well as the Collison-Granger allioops)

I don't blame Nets fans for thinking highly of Murphy without watching him frequently. His stats look great on paper.

He is perfect for their team though. Why?

"With the first pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, the New Jersey Nets select..."

The Nets are contending with Golden State and Minnesota for the league's worst defense next year. Golden State and Minnesota, however, are much better offensively. This is going to be a very ugly year for New Jersey.

More power to them. They fail to mention the insane amount of fouls Lopez will pick up due to Murphy sheepishly letting his defender beat him.

I'm sorry Mr. Lopez. Roy feels your pain

I really like Brook Lopez and thought defenses collapsed on him all of last year.

Even still, he was able to score in bunches. I think with Trophy there Lopez will have a great year. Jersey might even win a few games this year too!

So yes, for now it seems on paper as though Murphy is a good fit for them.

I'm sure Avery is happy to have a stretch PF like he had in Dirk.

I think Murph is a perfect fit for the Nets with Favors also in the rotation.

Who knows maybe EJ tells him to play more D and stop shooting that many threes EJ would be the first good coach to ever coach Murphy.
I did not like the way Murphy was used here and the way he played but I still think if he is use properly he can be a good player for any team.

Let them be excited, nothing wrong with that. Who's to say he won't fit in well? He's not a bad player at all.
There are two types of quarterbacks in the league: Those whom over time, the league figures out ... and those who figure out the league.

His plus-minus ratings have never been stellar but they are nothing compared to Rush or even Hibbert.

I'm thrilled with the trade and think Collison is the future at PG but all four teams did well with this.

Murphy will take pressure off of Favors and allow him time to develop.

Houston saves a ton of cash and doesnt lose much going from Ariza to Lee.

New Orl lets Paul know that he is THE man and that they are doing everything to try and win big now.

I wont miss Murphy much either since he was here for a long time and a lot of losing but he can be a good fit on many teams. When Boston, Houston and Cleveland all wanted him at the deadline last year to some degree that tells you that there is some worth there.

Really proud of Bird for maxing out Murphs value and being patient this offseason. He has came a long way.

Murphy may be the best example in the NBA of a player showing that stats lie. I know I was a sucker for his numbers at GS at the time we acquired him. It will not be past mid December by the time they wake up.

I and some other magic fans had talked about going in for Murphy with our midlevel next season.

I thought that he would be perfect next to Howard and in the Magic system. Clearly I have not watched much of him.

And after reading all of these posts I now have revocted my want for him next season.

Is he really that bad? is he a worse defender than David Lee? I was always curious why Hibbet got in foul trouble all the time, is this because of Murphy's defense?

My prediction: Murphy's numbers will go down a little in New Jersey due to the system, but Avery will do a much, much better job of hiding his deficiencies on defense than Obie did. Hence, Nets fans will never have the distaste for Murphy that Pacers fans have.

don't believe all the hyperbole you read here. we're just sick of him after all these years, that's all. didn't help that our coach played him 30+ min a night as the starter, either.

he's not a bad offensive player actually. terrible defender though, because he's slow and lacks athleticism. having dwight howard should go some way to hiding murphy's defense though. would be a good bench player for the magic, i think.

by the same token, i think favors in new jersey would be a good frontcourt partner for murphy. brook maybe not as much - i think that brook and troy will have the same defensive issues that murphy and hibbert had here. good complement offensively though.

    I agree.

I don't think we would have had such distaste for Murphy if it wasn't for four years of him being overpaid on such a bad team.

courtney lee + cap space, actually. i think the nets could have gotten more out of this deal, say, a pick or other minor asset from houston for the use of their cap space.

in recent years, getting a team with cap space to absorb a contract like murphy's would have cost a first round pick at least. i think the nets panicked after coming out of free agency with travis outlaw as their major acquisition. they decided that getting murphy as a player and a future trade asset is better than raw cap space. not sure i agree, but hey we benefited big time.

    Yi, Sean Williams, Josh Boone...

The PF rotation for the Nets has been worse than our PG rotation.

Murphy is a decent PF who can spread the floor for their penetrators of Harris and Terrence Williams and punish teams for doubling Brooke Lopez in the post.

on face value, they got a legit and consistent 20 / 10 guy. But hes a huge liability on defence. I was to see how his rebounding numbers are in a non-run and gun system. I think his rebounding numbers will drop
"So, which one of you guys is going to come in second?" - Larry Bird before the 3 point contest. He won.
