15" Dell flat panel.....won't turn on. On off button is yellow...press it and it goes green and you see the screen lighten for about 3 seconds and then it goes off and the button turns yellow.

SOmething in the 'puter or bad monitor.....or something really simple and CHEAP????

Yellow on the dell monitor usually is a sign that the monitor is on, but that the computer is hibernating. Perhaps check the connection from the screen to the CPU, and make sure it is plugged in all the way at both ends and not loose?

And the computer is on? I'd power cycle it anyway to see if it comes back up.

First thing I would ask is if you have a graphics card installed. If so you could try to remove the connection from the graphics card you installed, and try to run it on the on board graphics unit to see if it's the monitor, or graphics card.

That would be my first step. But if you don't have a graphics card, I'd try to hook that monitor up to another PC in the house, or any other PC you can readily get to. Then see if the monitor still craps out on another rig.

I had some similar problems and went though like 3 monitors.

They would just go off, and you could see the blue meaning it was turning on, but then it would go back to orange.

I finally stopped plugging them into the outlet and with my newest I have plugged it into my surge protector.

I'm guessing during a storm I forget the term for it, but "bad electricity" or something? Maybe fried it. That's what I assume with mine. But if your monitor was plugged into a surge protector, then that probably rules that out....
