Thread: Collison's hot spots

    Default Collison's hot spots

Here's Darren Collison's hotspots chart from NBA.com. It shows from where he took his shots last season and his scoring average for each zone of the floor:

    So, he shot:

    .528 from the rim,
    .447 from close,
    .462 from mid-range, and,
    .407 from beyond the arc.

Considering that a made three-pointer is worth three points, Collison is most efficient from outside, with:

1.22 points per FGA from outside,
    0.92 from midrange,
    0.89 from close, and,
    1.06 at the rim.

Yes, I know. Now you're going to start talking about the importance of free throws. Go right ahead.
And I won't be here to see the day
It all dries up and blows away
I'd hang around just to see
But they never had much use for me
    In Levelland. (James McMurtry)

Is 316 shots in the paint a lot. Seems like a lot. I think a few years back Tony Parker led the NBA in points in the paint, I wonder how many he shot.

Seems to me 316 in the amount of time he played is a lot?

It means a lot of ankles got broken on the way to rim.

I probably would have missed that and I am glad you pointed that out.

It's about 5.4 per every 36 minutes, which is OK, but not incredible.

    Other Pacers PG's:

    Watson 3.5
    Ford 4.8
    Price 3.5

Random guy that I know goes to the rim a whole bunch:

    Dwyane Wade 8.2

Collison didn't generate a whole lot of FTA's for himself last season - only 3.0 per 36 overall and 3.3 per 36 as a starter.

I wonder how many of his shots in the paint came off of breakaways / defensive steals? Take those out of the equation and it becomes more apparent how likely he is to penetrate and finish, and would also lead to a better understanding of how often his actual drives into the paint for shots in the halfcourt yielded FT's. Is there any way to get that breakdown?

So it appears his preference would be to either get to the rim or shoot from the right side.

Seems reasonable to me. Either get the easy bucket, or shoot from your strong side.

    Makes perfect sense

No cold spots on the entire floor? Nice!
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

Yeah, how many guys can say the same thing? I have no idea, but I'd guess it's pretty rare.
