Default Nets to change name after moving to Brooklyn

    http://www.sportingnews.com/nba/arti...ge-request-nba

I have thought about this ever since it was reported they would leave for brooklyn.

Brooklyn Nets sounds like a good name to me and I see no reason in changing the name but, for kicks and giggles what should they name the team?

I felt Brooklyn Nets worked....but when you chance cities it's often customary/good will for the team to change their name.

Unfortunately Brooklyn Ballers is probably more likely than anyone thinks.

There are two types of quarterbacks in the league: Those whom over time, the league figures out ... and those who figure out the league.

I'd put that name first on the list so far. It would make for a good logo and jersey but, then they would look like the golden state warriors.

They could start a rivalry and call it the battle of the bridges

their mascot could be a junkie who probably lives under the brooklyn bridge too. you could pay him with horrible arena food and booz. He could have his own bench next to the players bench for him to sleep on too. call him Scruffy the Junkie

Clarifying the nickname change situation »
    By Stefan Bondy

Prokhorov’s camp confirmed this morning that they’ve sent a request to the league to change the team’s name.

What does this mean? Maybe nothing.

Changing a team’s nickname, uniform or city name is a long process requiring that the owner gives the NBA notice 25 months in advance. This is to allow time for the creative process and the time it requires to make and market new uniforms. There doesn’t have to be a plan with the proposal, just a desire. It’s basically like putting the NBA on notice for a potential identity change.

So if Prokhorov wanted to change the team’s name for the 2012-13 season (even the city name to Brooklyn), he would have had to submit his notice by Oct. 1. If he submits a proposal, it would have to be approved by the Board of Governors.

    Brooklyn Enforcers.

    Brooklyn B-Boyz.

New Joisey Nots. (not from New Jersey anymore)

    Brooklyn Burrows (instead of burroughs).

    Brooklyn Burners.

Brooklyn Babblers (brooks tend to babble).

Sorry, can't really come up with anything better than what several teams have done when they have moved -- keep the original name with the new city (Lakers, Jazz, Hornets, Kings, Pistons). Brooklyn Nets.

Too bad Charlotte took Bobcats. The alliteration with Brooklyn kinda rolls off the tongue, even if it has no connection to NYC.

I kinda like Brooklyn Burners. Maybe a bit WNBA-ish, but I thought the same thing about the Thunder when they first introduced that name.

Didn't Simmons run through a bunch of names on this subject a few months back when it was first reported? I like the logo and uniform possibilities of Brooklyn Bridges, but it's kind of lame sounding when you say it out loud. "Yeah, I'm a Bridge fan. I love the Bridges of Brooklyn. Top notch."

Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

They used to be the New York Nets. It's the same regional market, so it is not like they need a whole new identity.

    Brooklyn Beavers

I came up with this one by asking my wife this question. When the New Jersey Nets move to Brooklyn they will change their name to the Brooklyn _______? She immediately said Beavers.

I was hoping the Wiz would go back. What a stupid reason to change a name anyways. I also wish Utah would send the Jazz name back to NO so they can give the Hornets back to Charlotte and bring back the Utah Stars.

I like New York Nets or Brooklyn Nets. I don't really see the need to change it other than go back to the origins of the Nets name. I know they want Brooklyn in the title though. The other options aren't any better and the Nets name has been around since the ABA which is really cool IMO.

LMAO, that would be awesome. I hate NY sports teams. And them being the Beavers opens up excellent trash talking opportunities.

Plumlee reminds me of a young Dale Davis. Good rebounding and he contests shots well on defense and his offensive game is very raw just like DD's was coming out of college.
