    Default Cavs/Pacers trade?

I got this from the Sports Rumor Mill website. Someone reported this.

"WNDE Sports Radio 1260 out of Indiana is reporting that a deal is in the works for Cleveland sending Wagner and Newble for Scot Pollard and a second Round pick. The deal could be done as early as 4pm today."

Well, well. Hadn't heard that one. Who is Newble, anyway?

Ira Newble 6'7" 240lbs SF. We're trading a center for that and Wagner?

Unless we have another deal brewing that involves shipping out a guard and/or forward, how does this make sense?

    Ira Newble profile:

    Dajuan Wagner

Although considering who we're giving up, I don't mind giving Wagner a try.

Hoopshype's profile of him has this to say on Newble:

"Good athlete... Likes to drive to the basket... Plays with heart... A great perimeter defender... Won't score much."

Well, if he plays good perimeter D that's good.... I guess.

Hoopshype on Wagner: "Can play both backcourt spots, but has a shooting guard mentality... Excellent athlete... Good scorer... Hard to stop one-on-one... Good running jumper... A little bit selfish... Must improve on the defensive end."

I suppose more offense off the bench isn't bad... I dunno.

I watched a few of the nationally televised Cavs games last year.

According to the announcers (I know, not saying much) Newble is a defensive specialist. And that's all I know about him. I also heard that he and Paul Silas didn't get along too well.

It doesn't hurt to have another defender. Especially if we're losing Ron. Scot may be nice to bang around with the big guys, but he really doesn't fit in here. Did he even play one minute in the ECF?

It would be good to at least gain Wagner out of the trade, I guess. But what in the hell are we gonna do with him? We already have Jackson, Jones, and Reggie at SG. Tinsley and AJ at PG...where's he gonna play?

Wagner in this deal makes me wonder if Freddy is being considered to be thrown in the SAC deal.

    Wagner to replace Freddy.
Newble to supplement the 3 position (defensively at least).
Peja to spread the floor and provide perimeter offense.

if these deals go down, this would have to go down as the busiest off-season ever for a team that just won 61 games.

This can't be true. Why would we leave ourselves with only Foster and Harrison in the middle and add an undersized SG and another SF? This makes no sense.

The day the season ended I would have jumped on this trade so fast. Heck, I would have offered to buy Pollard a first class ticket to Cleveland.

But now, I just don't see how this makes sense.

I would have loved to get Wagner, I think he would have been the perfect third guard on our team. He could have come off of the bench for either Reggie or Jamaal. But now isn't he just glut?

We all know Reggie is still going to start & that means that Jackson will be spelling him.

Jamaal is going to start & sure Wagner could come in for him but then why the hell did we sign Johnson for so long? For that matter why did we get Gill?

Newble is a nice bench player as well, 10th or 11th man with no problem.

But, & God help me for saying this because I feel dirty, we keep getting smaller & smaller.

Even if the Artest trade doesn't go down I just don't see how we can match up with Shaq or an even bigger stronger Detroit.

This is a good trade. Hell, two months ago this would have been a great trade. But right now, unless there is something else out there brewing, I don't see the point of this trade.

BTW, I think Wagner could be a star if given the right opprotunity.

Hmmm....part of a multi-team trade? Would then then be sent to Golden State for Dampier?

Wagner is a bit more interesting to them then Pollard I would guess.

Maybe they are getting Wagner and Newble to sweeten the deal for Peja.

could it be Artest-Wagner for Peja-???

    or Artest-Newble for Peja-???

It would probably have to be Peja-and-something-else to make the money match.

Newble is an excellent defender, if the Pacers trade Artest I could see them wanting Newble as a guy who could help defend the really good shooting guards and some small forwards.

But if the pacers trade Pollard as Peck said they better get a center somehow from somewhere. A center who can play 15 minutes per game and maybe 25 vs Shaq.

I agree with Peck on this as a trade goes the Pacers get the better of this, but what type of team are we becoming.

I believe we would have to wait 60 days to deal either of them again in a seperate trade. Not only that, we still don't get any bigs.

I believe we have 24hours to trade them, otherwise the 60 days takes effect. It also could be one big trade, thus avoiding this whole situation.

Someone listen to 1260 and see exactly what they are saying.

Why would they say the trade could happen by 4:00 PM today. Seems very strange.

Putting on my sarcastic hat: good to see that the Pacers are finally rebuilding.

We must be looking at a 4-team deal that is going land the Pacers Peja and Dampier for Artest, Pollard, and Bender (and maybe one of the Jones).

I almost like that trade as long as we don't trade the 2004 Sprite Slam Dunk Champ!

Roy what makes you say a 4 team trade? Where are you getting that from this?

I mean I agree that if this happens I heavily suggests another move, but where do you get 4 team deals for Peja and Dampier?

Well, trading Al and Scot wouldn't exactly be considered busting up last year's team. But if this happens, it does make me wonder...I don't know why, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Damp may be on his way here.
