Default What do you do with your old computers?

I'm trying to goosemyself into buying a new system. I'm pretty much locked in on this one, They have a great price on it right now.

I'm looking at the one with 8GB memory and an ATI Radeon HD 5770 Video card.

Thing is, that will leave me with TWO PCs, just sitting around. (I actually have a third one that I literally use as a door stop)

Both of my old PCs are over 5 years old and not worth trying to sell. I was looking into donating them, but doesn't seem to be a lot of options out there. I think I may just donate them to GoodWill.

What do you guys do with your old PCS?
Hey! What're you kicking me for? You want me to ask? All right, I'll ask! Ma'am, where do the high school girls hang out in this town?

They have a schdule there that shows drop off sites and dates for household electronics and a list of items they accept.

I take the hard drives out, and keep them because of the info that could be gained off of them(i.e. personal info) and then I donate the rest of the PC to goodwill.

And you get a small tax write off for it....

Strip 'em down for parts, then repurpose the parts.

5 years isn't actually that long ago... you could probably make a perfectly acceptable computer with those parts.

I mean, you'd have to run Ubuntu, but that's a given.
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!
