    Default Power rangers (2011)

I just heard back from a friend of mine, and he had a big audition Saturday to be the green ranger on power rangers. Apparently Nickelodeon is going to be doing a new series of powerrangers starting in 2011.

Can we please stop remaking movies/shows? I can not beleive they are doing another power rangers

I liked the PR as a kid. There have been way too many remakes and divergences but the original was entertaining (to me as a kid). If Nick stays true to the spirit it could go on entertaining kids for a while like other long running series. Superman, TMNT, etc.

As a kid, they had me until around the time they turned the Green Ranger into the White one. It got weird and confusing after that.

I was really bored one day and watched one of the old episodes on youtube, and only now do I realize whoever was making that show seriously had to be on something.

Wasn't the American series based off of a Japanese series?

The White Ranger was awesome. Probably my favorite. I loved Power Rangers. I was one for Halloween for at least three years in a row. So what if I was 17 at the time... Ok thats a lie cause I'm only 20 now, but still Power Rangers was awesome. It was good until they changed all the characters. Never could live up to the original cast (which I do include the Green/White Ranger cause he was brought in fairly soon and didn't replace anyone). All the remakes have been terrible though.

If you're like me, and you were a fan in the early days of this show, but lost track wayyyyy before it ever ended, you might enjoy this retrospective (which is still in progress):

I loved the original PR. The pink one was definitely my favorite.

I remember being in elementary school and my friends and I would run around at recess playing Power Rangers. I loved being the pink ranger. She was sooo cool! (that's my little 2nd grader self speaking).

I agree though. Has Hollywood/writers lost all of their imagination? Like they keep making remakes of movies...or movies from tv shows...or reboots of a movie that came out 5 years ago (*coughSpidermancough)
    Get some original ideas already!

Yea, I loved the Pink Ranger too..although my favorite was actually the blonde pink one. Might be why I like aussie accents so much. :P

Regarding it being "cool", I think it depends on your age. When I look back on liking the Power Rangers as much as I did for a couple years, I'm embarrassed.

It was considered really lame, at my school, to like the Power Rangers when I was in the 4th/5th grade (around the time the show started).

    ....I had power ranger underwear.

I don't think I have ever met anybody that ever thought the power rangers were cool. Maybe my age??? I'm 31 so maybe but this is the first time I've ever read people actually admit to liking them.

My brother and I were pretty into "in Space" but that's it. We were only vaguely aware of what had happened before.

Im gonna say its your age that causes this. Im 20 and everyone loved Power Rangers back in the day. I had a Power Rangers backpack, lunch box with thermos, so many toys, every kid in school did.

    Yeah, it's the age.

    MMPRs debuted in 1993.

I was 12 years old at that time; just above the MMPRs are cool line in the sand.

    I agree.

Though I am working on a independent film this week, which is an original story (and it may turn out horrible, I hope not!) but at least it is not a remake (or a remake of a remake)

RANDOM SIDENOTE: I was flipping through the channels before I got off of work today and I saw Walker, Texas Ranger. Man, I used to love that show. And good grief, it was EXTREMELY LAME at points.

The Walker Texas Ranger lever on Conan was one of the greatest things ever.

I was in kindergarten or first grade when power rangers first showed up liked it a lot then, and then probably stopped caring for it by the end of second grade.

Haha, you guys got it all wrong.

It was announced back in May that Haim Saban (the ORIGINAL owner of Power Rangers), bought back the rights to the franchise from Disney (he sold it to them in 2002 if I recall). By reacquiring the rights, he created a new brand called 'Saban Brands' and he, along with a new business team, PARTNERED UP WITH NICKELODEON to help bring back the glory to the franchise.

This deal will include over 700 episodes of reruns to air on Nicktoons and Nick, while a new series (tentatively titled 'Power Rangers Samurai') will air on Nicktoons early 2011. As far as plans go, they have a vision of the franchise lasting another 10-15 more years, and then some. They plan on creating feature films, video games, DVD/BluRay releases, live tours, etc etc. Refer to this site for more info: http://www.sabanbrands.com/index.html

I'd like to point out that one of the MAIN reasons Saban bought back the rights is because he felt, "Disney did not develop the property and exploit it in the way that it deserves," which in all essence...is true. In the early years when they had Power Rangers, ratings were high for the most part. But as time went on, they became lazy, and the marketing, promoting, and advertisement strategies began to falter and slowly decline.

Here is one of the MANY articles that covers this story: http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.co...o-nickelodeon/

Even now, 2 months after his announcement, the news is STILL spreading via twitter, facebook, Youtube. And Saban Brands was even at the Las Vegas Licensing Expo last month. Saban Brands will be at the European Licensing Show this September, where we might get our first look at the new series, a logo, and plot synopsis. Here's a video covering the Las Vegas show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AB5fw...layer_embedded

Me personally, I am very excited to see where they plan on going with the franchise. I just thought I'd share this bit of info with you guys! Have fun, and spread the news...
