Default Question of the Day - What if there's no trade?

It's a simple question: Will you be satisfied if the Pacers stand pat at #10 and get (Ekpe Udoh, Paul George, Gordon Hayward, etc.) your guy?

    There's only two answers.

Yes. I would be (will be?) more disappointed if someone like Aminu falls to us and we trade the pick anyway.

    Yeah.

If they do nothing else today, I'll accept that nothing profitable for the team was possible today and hope for something more later.

On the one hand I don't want the Pacers to make a trade just for the sake of making a trade!

On the other hand...if they can't get a trade done, that tells you a lot about Bird's abilities as a GM, so, yes, i will be disappointed if we stand pat!
    Thank you Jeff.

I guess I'm going with the very simple, "yes, as long as they draft one of the guys I want." This very quickly changes into possible spontaneous combustion if we stand pat and draft a guy I think is crappy.

I'll still boo, but I'll probably be a little liquored up at that point so who knows. If Gordon gets picked by us Conseco might have a riot on its hands. Half of the people will cheer and the other half will boo.

I'll be satisfied with picking at 10 if someone like Monroe or Aminu is falling. As for the other guys (Udoh, George, Hayward), I don't think there's that much drop off if we pick someone else at #18. Heck, we may trade and still end up with one of them, or Patterson, or Whiteside...so if not for some obvious top tier talent falling, I'll be disappointed if there's no trade.

My guy is Trade McTraderstein, so I don't think that'll work.

Seriously, I'm firmly on the record that I hate this draft after the top 2. But I can accept it if we're stuck there and Larry takes the BPA. Will I be satisfied? Honestly, probably not. I'll be disappointed, but I'll live.

Blows my mind how people will blame Larry if a deal doesnt happen.....If another team is interested in a trade with us for the #10....it most likely means they have a particular player in mind there and if he turns out not to be there they back off the trade....should Larry then hold a gun to there skull and force them to pull the trigger anyway ??? Both sides have to agree.....or Maybe OKC for example says hey we will give you Maynor and the 26 for the #10/Solo.....I would hope to God Bird says no, that isnt enough.....so if thats the kicker in the deal why so quick to attack Larry as incompetent when it could be nothing more than the 2 sides not coming to agreement......

Oh snap! I just read www.espn.com today, and found the comment where Bird stated himself that he was reluctant to add Rush and McRoberts to any trades.

Pacers president Larry Bird wants his team to get back to the playoffs and he believes the quickest way to do that is to trade the No. 10 pick in the draft for a veteran point guard.

Bird has already inquired about Darren Collison (New Orleans), George Hill (San Antonio), Ty Lawson (Denver) and Jonny Flynn (Minnesota).

"There's a lot of options out there," Bird told The Indianapolis Star Tuesday. "At this stage, you're just talking to different teams. You make offers and people start thinking about them. There's nothing concrete right now, but we do have a lot of offers out there and different scenarios.

"I want to win; our team wants to win. If the right deal comes up, we would probably move forward. You never know what's going to happen, but it's time to win here."

According to the newspaper, teams want Brandon Rush and Josh McRoberts, but Bird is reluctant to add them to any deal right now.
Rush, I can understand (but if the price is right), but McRoberts? I like McRoberts, but he's not going to get any playing time if Hansbrough comes back to full strength.

Thrilled, ecstatic even. Ten is much better then getting Collison/Lawson/Hill etc.

I think if LB can better the team he has to be willing to trade 1 or both. I love both these guys but I want to see Pacers back to the good ol' days. When I was in the military and Reggie was playing I had a huge sense of pride, now if I was still in I would still be prideful of our Pacers but no way prideful enough to talk smack. I know I am like all of us on PD, we want to reclaim what was. I know its not going to happen over night, but I am looking forward to it. Tonight and this summer will dictate how long myself and all of us will have to wait. Lets just hope the wait is almost over.

Hopefully we could draft someone like Udoh...I'll be more than happy with that....I would be extremely mad if we waste it on Hayward
"So, which one of you guys is going to come in second?" - Larry Bird before the 3 point contest. He won.

I'm leaning towards what was said in another thread. Trade Rush/McRoberts for Collision then draft Paul George to replace Rush. As far as I know, we pretty much will have an "healthy" team going into next season.

Epeke Udoh is the guy I hope the Pacers draft if he's still available. If not, I think I'd be okay with Hayward, George, or Aminu (in that order).

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.

I'm not disagreeing with your idea, but just saying neither salary matches Collison.

Really warmed up to this Paul George kid. Completely uninformed opinion, just based on some stats and few highlight videos, so I don't really know what I'm talking bout, but I'd take him.

I'd be more satisfied, however, if we use our expirings to make another trade. And I'd definitely be OK with packaging the #10 to get some talent back.

    Basically, I'm easy.

If you can talk New Orleans into that one, you should be doing Bird's job.

We can still pull the trigger on trades over the summer by giving up the draft rights or just pull off trades involving expiring contracts.

    .
That's my thinking, but I still won't be satisfied so I voted no. Meaning I won't be unhappy with the front office, just that nothing worthwhile was available.

Donnie Walsh said right after he left the Pacers that the new breed of GM doesn't want to make equal trades, he wants to win every trade. Thus it appears it's really hard to make a trade to improve your team.
