Default ESPN TrueHoop Network Mock Draft - Pacers select Paul George

    http://www.eightpointsnineseconds.co...pacers-select/

This was done a few days ago, but the TrueHoop Network is using their member blogs do a slow form Mock draft, similar to the Bite Me, BillS Mock Draft being run by mellifluous.

These types of mocks are interesting, because you get the dynamics of the different personalities. THN is a pretty cool set up, and they've got some pretty sharp guys doing this one.

Here's a snippet of my rationale for Paul George:

Other rumbles have the Pacers targeting Avery Bradley here, who makes sense as a perimeter defender, but is a bit of a stretch at pick #10. Also, he’s more of a 2 than a 1. In fact, I told Jared that’s who I was going to draft but then went back and re-read some notes and scouting reports and changed my mind. It’s possible that they go that direction, but I think they’ll end up liking Paul George as a more versatile, more NBA-ready player. He could potentially take Rush’s job at the 2. Or, if Murphy is traded away, he could even end up playing some “stretch” 4 in the system. Overall, he looks like a very strong defender for the 3, a good defender at 4 and a passable-to-solid defender at the 2.
You can click on the team links to see the write ups for each website.

The Basketball Jones also did a live Mock Draft, and Tom Lewis of IndyCornrows selected Ekpe Udoh (who had been taken earlier in the THN draft.)

The film is here, and the Pacers' pick is at about the 30 minute mark.

If the draft goes in that particular order, I wouldn't mind Bird taking Paul George after I watched that video previously posted here at PD...the kid sure does look like a great prospect.

I'd take George in that scenario since the other guys I like are off the board.

    Hayward!
Although I respectfully disagree with you in the direction the team should go with this pick. I admire your determination to stick with Hayward no matter what...

I am leaning toward George more and more. Also with the rumor that Golden State could be after Udoh at 6 now, that would mean Monroe falls (Detroit)... what to do? I know above they have Detroit taking him, but I think they go after Monroe if he falls. There is a buzz with George and after watch what he can do I am leaning towards him. He might be the guy! I like the fact that Granger and him have some chemistry already, can only help.

If George is Danny part 2, maybe we have Danny and not George playing some spot stretch 4 with Rush at the 2?... at least until George physically matures and learns the system.

Rumors also have Johnson going to New Jersey at #3, but the top 9 prolly stay the same, with Minny going with Cousins and Favors falling to Sactown.

We're trying to get through the second round now, but we're not sure how it will work.

I don't have a write up, but I was just able to draft Mikhail Torrance, 6-5 G, Alabama with the 40th pick.

FWIW, re: Monroe and his supposed poor workout.

"He's a legit 6-11 with skill," one executive said. "You can play him a couple spots, the high post or power forward ... Golden State, they'd really like to get him. They're saying he had a bad workout because they really want him to be there at six."
Also note that Nellie has been extremely lavish in his praise for Cousins but his comments about Monroe have been just lukewarm. Just take it for FWIW.

George is starting to grow on me as well. but then i just think about how ugly the rest of the positions would remain.

Avery Bradley would make sense as a one stopper that can play the two. Since he plays off the ball and if we find a big two that likes to handle the ball and have it in his hands, which seems like we could find, then Bradley makes a lot of sense. If he is a one that can defend twos, then we can draft a high talent two that can only defend ones, like a combo guard- makes our future picks easier. And Bradley playing off the ball from Granger and Dunleavy this season seems to work well in theory.
