This whole Jonny Gomes thing just seems meant to be. Remember how we wasn't even going to sign him, and then when we did it was figured he would get sent down and not make the roster. And now all of this........and they say the NBA is where amazing happens...pshh

Here are the first round of Gomes Facts:

When Jonny Gomes does a push-up, he isn’t pushing himself up, he is pushing the world down.

When Jonny Gomes puts on Chris Sabo’s goggles, he can see the future.

MLB is considering putting Jonny Gomes’ DNA on the list of banned substances.

If you spell Gomes in Scrabble, you win. Forever.

Jonny Gomes knows what Willis is talkin’ about.

Jonny Gomes once took one of Dusty Baker’s toothpicks to the plate instead of a bat. He was intentionally walked.

Superman wears Jonny Gomes pajamas to bed.

Before the Boogeyman goes to sleep, he checks under the bed for Jonny Gomes.

Jonny Gomes can touch MC Hammer.

For Jonny Gomes, the outfield warning track isn’t there to warn him. It is there to warn the wall.

Yeah, it's never not too easy to poke fun at Dusty Baker.

Good to have a thread about the Reds to take my mind off the draft for a bit. Didn't expect so many Pacers/Reds fans when I first logged on to PD not long ago. I'm home!

When I was very young, and I mean very. Like 3 or 4, my dad shown me his first baseman's mit that he had signed as a kid by Pete Rose. He told me stories of going to Riverfront Stadium watching the Big Red Machine when he was a teenager with his dad.

That and Barry Larkin and the rest of the 1990 Reds sealed the deal for me.

My minor league basebally team won the fundraiser contest which was a trip to Riverfront in 1991 to see the then reigning World Champion Cincinnati Reds. I fell in love, and the rest is history. There is nothing like that first trip to the ballpark.

I'll be honest I grew up a Red Sox fan for the most part. I started going to GABP a few years ago and really started following the Reds. I guess you could call me a bandwagon jumper, but I jumped onto a bandwagon that wasn't very good until this year.

Also, Eric Davis was my favorite player growing up because of his flip-up shades so I always liked the Reds, but up until about 2006 I always said the Red Sox were my AL team and the Reds were my NL team. Now, it's just the Reds. I have a hard time liking the Sox because of them being able to buy anyone they want, but I will still root for them in the AL. Hell, as long as the Yankees aren't winning and the Reds are then I'm happy.

I'm in a similar situation. My mom was born and raised in Cincinnati during the Big Red Machine years. She still can name the entire roster from the 1975 and 1976 Championship teams. Plus my dad, who lived here, also happened to be a big Reds fan back then. So growing up I heard tons of stories about Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, Cesar Geronimo, Ken Griffey, and of course, Pete Rose. And while I was still a bit too young to remember the Nasty Boys and the 1990 World Series (I was born in '88), I've heard many stories about that team, as well.

    Love my Reds.

Great story. Luckily I was born in '86, so I vaguely remember watching the 1990 World Series on TV. I mean I can't tell you play-by-play or anything, but I remember the TV screen.

    My first trip to GABP:

A drunk fan in the left field stands yelled, "Hey Dunn, you SUCK!!!"

Dunn: "I suck, but I get paid A LOT of money to suck. How much did you pay for those seats?"

    And I was hooked.

As much as I hated Adam Dunn, that was hilarious.

I remember back in 2007 going to an Indians game versus the Bats. I met Homer Bailey and he gave me the ball he was warming up with pre-game. Also, everyone in the stands were going, "BRUUUUUUCE".
