Default PD Forum Awards 2010: Best Debator - Naptown Seth

    2010 Finalists:

    Naptown Seth
    Unclebuck
    ChicagoJ

    Storylines

If Naptown Seth wins, he would be inducted into the PD Hall of Fame. Standing in his way are two PD heavyweights, can he overcome them?

With the move from "Most Argumentative" to "Best Debator," Unclebuck has risen in the ranks of this award, can he claim victory?

ChicagoJ is also nominated later for the Post More Often Award, will the quality of his arguments outweigh the limited quantity he provided?

    Past winners:

    2009: Naptown Seth
    2008: Naptown Seth (most argumentative)
    2007: Naptown Seth (most argumentative)
    2006: Kstat (most argumentative)
    2005: Kstat (most argumentative)
    2004: bulletproof (most argumentative)

Naptown Seth is one win away from the HoF in this category, Kstat is 2 but was not nominated this year.

I'll be the first to admit, I've been off my game a bit since 2006. I wouldn't have nominated me lately either.

I much enjoyed my friendly rivalry with BP back in the day. He was one of those "love to hate" guys that forced you to rise up to the challenge on a daily basis. I remember the 2-3-2 discussion, over its relevance and whether or not a team would ever win the middle three games at home. Six years later, it's happened twice.

I don't get involved much with the big discussions anymore. Just the meaningless scraps now and then to blow off steam.

Anyway, all three candidates here have been very good this year, but I'm giving a surprise nod to a fellow old-schooler in Jay, who I believe had his biggest improvement in this area.

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

This one is between Naptown and Unclebuck for me... I think...

Chicago J has picked his spots but Naptown has went on the offensive on several subjects and UB has stood up and taken the charge defending O'Brien several times.

That said, if any nominee wants to offer me some money to vote for them I am not above taking it!
Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.

Seth deserves to be enshrined, if only for his legendary evisceration of Cabbage by screenshot.

If this were still most argumentative, I would've voted for Seth, but I find that he often resorts to strawmen arguments which is a huge no-no when it comes to debating.

Well I can't vote for myself.

I often get totally lost in Seth's use of stats, and J doesn't post often enough. Not sure who to vote for.

But I'm voting for J - when he does enter into a debate, he is usually the best at it. Makes me mad sometimes though

Under whatever label, this is still Seth. Even with too many stats for my taste.

As has been noted, I'm purposefully only entering a handful of discussions these days. As my apathy builds, I'm only interested in what might bring lasting success to the team, so once again I'm not likely to get caught up in any argument over whether X move or Y player or Z strategy will help the team most in 2010-11.

I'm dumbfounded and flattered to be a finalist. Really, this should be a two person race to the finish.

I think UncleBuck has transformed into more of a debator, although I feel sorry for him that he's been "defending O'Brien" (my words, not his). In the past, he'd tell you his opinion in a summary form, but he wasn't actively trying to persuade you that he's right. That's changed, and PD has certainly benefitted that one of its smartest posters have tried to become more influential in his posting style.

    = = = = = = = = = = =

As is always the case, I don't mind taking the opposite position from either Seth or UB, because they know how to state their case and rely on their case, without insults, name calling, etc. For that, I hold both of these guys in the highest esteem.

If it weren't for PD members like Seth and UB, I'd probably have even less motivation to pay attention to the current incarnation of the Pacers.

Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

I honestly don't think any of these three are particularly good debators (I would take Putty, Hicks, Count55 over them) but I went UB because I do think he's becoming something more of a debator, as J said.

If Naptown Seth wins, he would be inducted into the PD Hall of Fame.
How am I not already in there?!?!

How many people have won back to back in a category that didn't even exist? Only me, the still defending champion Most Offensive Poster, although I didn't really campaign this year, I just let my d-bag attitude do the campaigning for me.

I easily sweep Most Offensive on the Tarheel vote alone.

I voted Unclebuck. He was high-bidder for my vote.

Seriously... Unclebuck and ChicagoJ made the case for that vote perfectly in this thread.

Any year, this is Jay or Seth all the way, but with all of the JOB debate, my vote goes to UB...

I'd like to think every nitwit with a stupid theory or post, every bad stat, every single choice and comment from JOB, the anti-Jackson movement, drafting Tyler Hansbrough, Blair's missing ACLs, 3 year plans, Troy Murphy's rebounding, the anti-Rush movement, the McBob non-believers, UncleBuck and BillS and their pro-JOB agenda, and the interwebs.

But most of all I'd like to think the lord for giving me the gut instinct to be a true d-bag. In day to day life I can be rather passive believe it or not, but deep inside me is the fire of a Dennis Leary caliber a-hole that constantly pushes me to rip the living s*** out of each and everything I don't agree with.

All the training and drinking in the world couldn't get me to the level of offensive stubbornness that gives me the passion to argue constantly.* That comes from someplace special, possibly the golden cave of Lost island. Who knows.

Oh, and I would thank my parents, but frankly they were pretty nice to me and didn't really help develop my crap attitude in any way. So thanks for nothing there.

    * But I do think the G sports drink could benefit from a tequila version in their line of products. Post, during and pre training for athletes, but what about something for the hard core fan looking to up his game? That tazer isn't going to fire itself and that's a long way to the field for a guy just drinking a couple of beers.

G Teq would be to sports fans what LSD was to the Beatles - inspirational and motivational.
