Default OT? Who will win a trophy for Indy first?

Colts are reporting this week, we obviously all care about the Pacers year round - so I ask - in the next 10 years one of the two is bound to win a chanpionship (at least I hope so) - who will do it FIRST?

Although, frankly, I'm not too sure about the Steelers chances yet. But they've got the best coach in all of professional sports, so that helps. I know you're a big fan of The Bus but I'm concerned about the running game... which feels very strange for me to say because since I've been alive I've never, ever worried about the Steelers running game.

I'm also going to miss Jason Gildon. There'll be a lot of pressure on Joey Porter and Kendrell Bell this year.

I don't know if I'd go so far as to say Bill is the best coach in pro sports, but he certainly is my favorite. Yeah, I'm looking for the Bus and Duuuuce to have a great time in the backfield. Jason will be missed, but hopefully Kendrell will have a superb season again. James Farrior should help things out there too. I think the team's problem will be QB and DBs. I don't really like Tommy Maddox too much. He just makes some bad, bad decisions. I'm very excited about Roethlisberger. With Gardocki/Reed, I think the special teams will be a strength (although I'm sad to see Josh Miller go.) I'm very concerned with the DBs, but the Steelers will find a way to win.

(Oh, this isn't a football forum, oops. )

    edit: I'll miss Bruener too.

When you get down to it,

I decided a few years ago that Bill Cowher was my favorite coach in all sports because there are only two coaches that I think could motivate me to try to run through a brick wall. Cowher and JVG.

Maybe he's not the best by more objective measures, but he's certainly near the top.

Gotta admit that Tommy Turnover is an upgrade over the QB who shall remain unnamed, however.

Jay, the Steelers signed Duce Staley from the Eagles this offseason. He might not be a big name running back but he is a workhorse and can do everything out of the backfield. In 2002 Duce was near the top of the league in combined yards rushes/receptions he had like 1600 yards that year and he can do it all out of the backfield and is a terrific running back. The Eagles let him walk because last season he had a reduced role in a 3 back system because the Eagles have two outstanding young explosive running backs and they didn't want to pay big money to Duce because of his age but he is a very good running back.

To answer the question I'm picking the Colts and Eagles to meet in the superbowl this year and the Eagles don't match up with quarterbacks who can audible out of blitz packages like Manning so I'm going to say the Colts. But with injuries you never know.

WHAT THE HELL! We are NOT turning this into a Steelers (BOOO) thread!

Colts will not win a Super Bowl until they put some emphassis on their defense. Growing the defense from within while spending almost all the money on offense (with the majority dedicated to just a few players) will make for some exciting games.... but not win many big ones when it counts.

While it is possible the Colts could clear the hurdle and their low dough defense be up to the task, I wouldn't be calling them the favorites.

Offense sells tickets, defense wins trophies.

I lean toward the Pacers having a better shot (sooner).

Let's put it this way, I love defensive/ smashmouth football *almost* as much UB loves defensive basketball.

EDIT - All disparaging comments about the Colts unbalanced roster and offensive emphasis have been deleted. I'm not trying to flame anyone.

Oh, MSA, I'll miss Bruenner too. Never underestimate the value of the best blocking tight end in football.

DD, thanks for the reminder about Duce. I'm somewhat familiar with him (one of my buddies always drafts him on his fantasy roster), but I'm also concerned about the Steelers' OL. Bettis didn't hit the holes very effectively last season but I could never determine if he was slowing down or if the holes were no longer big enough to drive a bus through??

Sorry, Doug, for de-railing this thread.

Suaveness, you keep right on believing that the Irsay family won't move the team (again). On the other hand, there is a reason the Rooney family is considered among the very best of all owners in all sports.

One last Steeler comment: I actually really like(d) Kordell Stewart. I thought the team missed him this past year.

The Convention center expansion and the NCAA agreement tie into a nice little package that works for keeping the Colts right here.

The Patriots will repeat, with Cory Dillon.

Then the Pacers will win it.

    But first, the Red Sox...

The poster "pacertom" since this forum began (and before!). I changed my name here to "Slick Pinkham" in honor of the imaginary player That Bobby "Slick" Leonard picked late in the 1971 ABA draft (true story!)
