    Default Hey RWB

The family and I went to see Jersy Boys at the Murat last night and in walked yer ol' buddy Peyton. He sat about 10 rows in front of me. What was really embarrassing tho were the people that stood up to not only gawk but to snap pictures with their camera phones. Really it was embarrassing the way people stared.

People have no sense. I do find it kind of surprising though. All the times I've seen Peyton in public he was pretty much left alone. It was usually in restaurants. At one point I told my wife he was following us because we saw him 3 straight Saturday nights at 3 different restaurants (Mo's,Harry and Izzy's,St.Elmo's) but I never saw anyone approach or bother him. There were a couple of stares and whispers, but nothing disruptive. Kind of made me proud to be a Hoosier.

On the flip side of that...I sat next to Tony Siragusa at a Kiss concert several years ago (MSA) and there wasn't a peaceful second. Constant yelling of GOOSE! or "Hey Tony" and the usual barrage of picture takers and autograph seekers. All of which were denied. I actually felt sorry for him until I realized how big a jerk he was. And he was a jerk.....second only in my celebrity a-hole book to JJ Redick.

In fairness, I didn't see anyone approach him just a few dozen pulling out their camera phones. And, as he was walking in he did turn and smile to people and nod at them....while never slowing down or stopping. He took it better than I would.

Yeah Geez, I guess celebrity does have its draw backs. I'll have a few more comments later, gotta go outside and play with fire extinguishers shortly.

I wouldn't call it a drawback, I think of it more as a trade-off. You want the riches and notoriety and glamor, then you sacrifice the right of living your life out of the public eye. Again I don't advocate hounding or bothering celebrities when out with their families, but I also don't advocate those athletes being jerks in response to harmless autograph requests or photo takers. Grin and bear it. Sounds like Peyton did the best thing he could do. It doesn't take much to smile and nod or acknowledge a fan, whereas to that person they have probably had their day made. You want a quiet existence, Mr. JJ Redick....uh I mean Mr. Anonymous Celebrity then retire and sell insurance.

Agreed, but there are reasons for someone like Manning to be gun-shy. Can't give details, but I'm aware of instances where folks were no longer harmless autograph seekers. Either their intent was for money, invading his personal space, or simply take things to the extreme. Is it everyone? Of course not, but sometimes it is hard to judge who's ok and who is not.
