Default Hansbrough not playing Summer League!

Per Wells and Pacers insider: http://blogs.indystar.com/pacersinsi...medium=twitter

No summer league for Pyscho T

    Posted by Mike Wells

THE `BURBS - A number of people have sent me emails and tweets asking about an update on Tyler Hansbrough.

Do you want the good news or the bad news first?

I'll give you the good news first.

Word from down on Pennsylvania Street is that Tyler Hansbrough is progressing well and he should be ready for the start of training camp barring any kind of setback with his inner ear infection/concussion problem.

The bad news is that Hansbrough won't be trying to run anybody over during summer league.

The Pacers first-round pick last summer won't be part of the summer league team that plays in Orlando next month.

Look at it as it's better to be safe than sorry.

A number of you have also asked how come the Pacers and Hansbrough haven't talked more about his situation.

The team has to be careful because of medical privacy laws.

The Pacers issued a statement the day after the season saying that Hansbrough "is under the care of local and national medical experts regarding his condition that includes an inner ear infection and a concussion."

Hansbrough will basically be a rookie again whenever he returns to the court, which will hopefully be at the start of training camp for the sake of the Pacers.

Hansbrough isn't the only Pacer that won't be playing in Orlando.Brandon Rush, Roy Hibbert and Josh McRobert are also not expected to play.
Pump your brakes before you start going off about them not playing.
Summer league is usually limited to players in their first or second year unless they're a free agent trying to catch on with a team.

Ron Artest played in the Minneapolis summer league in 2005, but that was only because he was suspended most of the season for his part in the brawl.
The Pacers' three draft picks - No. 10, 40 and 57 - are expected to play in Orlando. That could change if they trade any of their picks, which they're open to doing, especially No. 10.

Again, it makes you wonder on Tyler's well being and how that may factor into what we do in about 3 weeks. I thought there might be a slight chance he would play this summer, but that appears to not be the case.

As I mentioned in another post, Hibbert told me tonight at the softball game that he probably wouldn't be playing in the summer league either. I would be surprised if Rush played and Josh could see some playing time, but may not play either. But no Roy, Rush, Tyler, Price and maybe McRoberts means our team will be comprised of whomever we draft, sign as a free agent and Marcus Williams, who we signed at the end of the season.

    Did we?
I thought that was the speculation, but it never happened.

As a Tar Heel fan I love Psycho T to death, but man oh man I think he might need to just call it quits or else this vertigo or whatever he has could turn to something serious.

I thought that fell through. I don't recall hearing any news that he was actually ever signed. Anyone?

You're all correct. My apologies. I thought we signed him and it was pushed to the side, but I did a quick search and see that the deal fell through. With Price out and a potential lack of camp bodies, I still wouldn't rule out Williams being signed, but he's still a free agent.

Speaking of Hansbrough, I found these on Twitter today. Been a while since we've seen Tyler.

I know he's not a rookie now, but I wish Josh McRelevant could play during the summer league only for the enjoyment of Dante and Galante.

Wow, will we ever see Tyler on the court again, I wonder? I know it is a precaution, but this is beginning to look like something that could be career threatening, if it continues. Which I hope it doesn't - loved watching him play for us!

i wasn't really expecting him to play summer league. i thought i had read before that his being ready for training camp was the goal. however, if training camp comes and goes and still nothing- then i will truly start getting worried. and if we are into the season and there still isn't any real progress then i might just consider him done.
i really hope that isn't the case.

I agree. If we get to training camp and he is not out there banging bodies and misses the entire thing we might as well write him off for at least next season. Missing a majority of this season, summer league, and training camp no way will he be any where close to be ready for the upcoming season. Him being out of game shape will just set him up for an injury.

I figured he would not play in the summer league, but it still sucks that he will be missing another chance to get some playing time.

I wonder if the draft will let us know more about Tyler. If we don't draft or trade for a big then they probably are counting on tyler playing next year. If we draft a big then Tyler playing days might be over.
Then again maybe Bird will just take TBA and it will mean nothing.

I personally would be surprised to see Tyler in a Pacers uniform again. Not that I have any kind of inside info about his particular condition whatsoever, but I have an uncle who had to deal with a similarly undiagnosable case of severe vertigo, and it crippled him for years. His life was a living hell for a long, long time.

If that is indeed what Tyler is going through, then I have a massive amount of sympathy for the poor kid. I really hope his situation isn't that bad, and I worry about him pushing to get back on the floor and potentially making it worse in the long run...

Summer league is summer league. If the Pacers felt that Tyler would be able to play, they would definitely play him in summer league just to get him back into feeling what playing in a game is like. Not a good sign, IMO, but I really want to be wrong about that.

The rest of the guys that have been mentioned as not playing summer league are not surprising. I wouldn't be surprised if we play a combined roster with some other team like we did one year when Carlisle was still here.

Of course, with Elton Brand and Tony Parker added to our roster, several of these guys wont be here, anyway, and we would just be familiarizing Evan Turner with our offense, anyway!

I feel like Hansbrough should be in Indy this summer doing everything possible to get better and be ready to contribute this next season.

    Why isn't he here?

My understanding was that he was back in Chapel Hill working out. As far as why he's not in Indy, I'm not sure why. I would hope that he would be in Indy for part of the summer.

I know that Josh, Jeff and Roy will be here essentially all summer. I would guess that Price may return and do rehab in Indy as well. Murphy is in NYC while Dunleavy splits his time between New York City and Indy. Rush and Watson are in LA, Danny splits his time between LA, New Mexico and Indy. Ford is down in Houston and I think that I heard Dahntay Jones spends time in Vegas during the summer. Not sure what Solo is doing.
