Default Sources say Pacers are trying to trade the 10th pick

According to Alex Kennedy's (Tampa area writer, who is also a Senior Analyst the Bleacher Report) twitter update, the Pacers are trying to move the pick before draft night.

Sources confirm that the Indiana Pacers are trying to move the tenth overall pick. The team doesn't expect to have the pick on draft night.

On draft night? Meaning that the pick will be gone before draft night, or we'll make a move on draft night depending on how teams select, and we'll be picking for someone else? If that was case, Bird is going to have to make trigger pull decision in 3 minutes...or whatever the time is between selections.

Most likely any trade would depend on player X being there for the other team to select, so the trade probably wouldn't be announced until after the selection is made.

2011 is a smokescreen. LB is gonna pull a celtics, and get us two superstars to go with our paul pi oh wait... I mean Danny Granger.

Something good will happen on draft night. So good, most of us will complain and criticize it.

Not at all surprised about the Pacers more than likely moving this pick.

There more than likely won't be a player at 10 that will help us, either this coming season or in the next few.

Bird has mentioned that sooner or later he wants to add a veteran. I'm sure there will be someone available that another team would love to get their hands on. I just hope that they have another piece to the puzzle that Bird is putting together.

There is no better postion to add a veteran to than the PG spot. A rookie would more than likely take a year or two to learn the postion at the NBA level. A veteran PG could come in & make the rest of the team better.

I'd take that pick in a heartbeat for anyone on our roster aside from Stuckey....

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

The problem is there isn't a person on your roster worth that pick outside of Stuckey.

Sadly, that might (might) be the only roster in the league that I like less than ours.

Which I'd think Stucky would be the main target.

Otherwise, I'd take Ben Gordon for his historic clutchness and Will Bynum for his spurtability (although I looked at his stats, they aren't as good as I suspected), but I don't see a match other than Stucky really.

I like all of the Pistons PG through SF, pretty much though. None address a need or a huge impactful move for the Pacers, imo.

Interesting if true (no reason to doubt it really).

Question is, is Bird looking to get a vet or move up in the draft?... or down for that matter...

I'd guess he's open to everything, but a vet is the goal.

He has one season left on his contract, he needs to do something now.

I'd hope if he gets garbage offers for the 10 though, he'd still just draft at 10.

It's kind of exciting, but frustrating because I have no idea where this could end up. You have to think Point Guard from a team that needs a good frontcourt player. It should be an attractive package, since you can get Murphy for one year to upgrade the PF position on a team and draft your PF of the future at 10. To me, thats valuable.

I'm thinking if they trade the pick, we'll move down or out of the draft altogether.

Anyone know if Philly still offering Brand/#2? (Wishful hope I know)

I think Bird is serious about trading it for Darren Collison which I actually like, but at the same time I want us to draft a PF.

I find it extremely unlikely that Bird does something like this.

I think the #10 pick is far and away our best trading asset, and I think we're looking to package it with at least one of the expiring contracts and get a vet.

Despite my spitballing in the Granger #4 thread, I don't see the Pacers making any move that doesn't give an immediate on the floor return.

In fact, I will be shocked if we don't come out of draft night with a new, vet/young vet PG. I can't say whether we'll like it or not, but I think all of the pressure for the Pacers will be to move faster, not to take longer.

Very best case scenario to me, you get your PG and a late first/early second rounder and a guy like Patterson falls or Bledsoe or any number of guys. I could see Whiteside falling too. Then you can have your cake and eat it to. I don't like Whiteside in the top 20, love him at 26 - 34.

This draft will have guys as good at 30 then you'll get at 15, it seems. Like Hicks said, it seems flat in talent as you go along.

I completely agree, here. If this doesn't happen, I think it means the offer were complete low ball garbage. Teams overvalue draft picks, at draft time though. They see Paul Pierces at 10, not Acie Laws (I think he was a 10). If you are going to get a good deal done, this is the time.

    Law was an 11.

    Bo Derek was a 10.

I'm worried Bird will face the pressure of winning and do a panic trade that lands us a more talented PG, but doesn't make sense long term. I've been patient with Bird, but his actions this past year(drafting Hansbrough over PG and keeping O'Brien) really have me starting to quesion him as a GM. I feel like he has a good idea of how to build a team, but he's doing it the wrong way in my opinion and especially doing it with the wrong coach. This is kinda a make or break year with him I believe, he needs to be smart with the moves he makes.

    I'm glad to hear this.

I wish they'd done it last year.
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

That would be my guess too. Packaging the #10 and expiring together makes for an attractive package. I'd like Parker (if it includes a contract extension) or the Brand and #2 idea. Collison would be great too. I just hope we're not looking to move down, unless we're getting a good vet in return.
