Lightbulb Rumor: Nets turned down Michael Beasley for Keyon Dooling

Did Thorn Turn Down Dooling for Beasley? - NetsDaily

Net Income on Jun 2, 2010 2:12 PM EDT 48 comments

Jason Smith of ESPN Radio's "NBA Today" podcast reports that an NBA general manager told him the Heat offered Michael Beasley to the Nets for Keyon Dooling and "Rod Thorn turned them down". Smith described Thorn's decision as yet another indication of how badly the Heat want to get rid of Beasley.

However, a look at the two teams' salary structures show that it may be more about cap space. Beasley is scheduled to make $4,962,240 next season while Dooling is only owed a $500,000 buyout on his $3,828,000. The Nets have a team option on Dooling exercisable June 29. So taking on Beasley would have reduced the Nets' cap space by nearly $4.5 million. It would have made the Heat much more competitive in free agency this summer as well, giving them more than $25 million to spend...as well as Dwyane Wade.

That's a fabulous photograph to include with this story. !

If I had any hope of Beasley having a happy ending to his career, I'd consider wanting us to try to get him for an expiring.... but at this point I really don't.

They are shopping the guy they selected second in the draft a mere two years ago for Kenyon Dooling. Nothing says epic fail of a draft pick like that.

Wow, Beasley's a steal, almost for free and I still wouldn't touch him. Crazy.

Just think... Cousins seems just as crazy or worse coming into the draft.

Maybe teams are learning, thus reason his stock is falling (now watch him go #2).

Hum, how badly do the Magic want a PG that's an expiring. I'm most generally a very conservative individual, but with Beasley having a Team Option after next season, a one year rental might be worth considering. If they package Beasley with Daequan Cook salaries would work.

I think the Celtics should make a run for Beasley.

Us offering TJ Ford for Beasley would be like trading our sh$t for their explosive diarrhea

Some of this is Beasley, but some of this is due to teams being outright stupid at this point for cap space. Some teams are going to look pretty foolish when they are forced to field a squad of cap spaces in jerseys.

"Starting at SF, the $16m we had set aside to pay Lebron. And at PF, the $14m that was earmarked for Bosh.

    (dramatic pause)

And at center, weighing in at 8 ounces and 3 inches tall, the green stack that brought the winning back*....the money you could be saving with Geiko!!!" (cue fireworks)

Maybe this was more of an effort by Riley and the Heat to clear 2010-2011 CapSpace while saddle the Nets with more Salary so that they don't have as much $$ to make an offer for 2 Max Contracts

My guess here is that I wouldn't be surprised if Beasley was in a Knicks uniform before Training Camp starts in a couple of Months.

Walsh is the type of guy that chases potential and talent while ignoring any possible "baggage" that may accompany them.

Man, I would have taken that deal hands down, and wouldn't have batted an eyelash over it. One year rental of Beasley, plus the #3 pick. A

    Harris
    Turner
    CDR
    Beasley
    Lopez

lineup can make some noise in the Eastern Conference.

Or how about being the highest drafted player in the history of the NBA to be sent to the D League (Haseem Thabeet)

On Beasly, I think our core team is strong enough to support Beas, and willing to take a chance on him, especially if it's only an expiring (like TJ Ford)

I would do it. It's too cheap, yet high reward to not do it. I hope Miami gives us that same garage sale.

    Yep,

I think Miami, like NY, is hedging all their bets on pairing wade with a Max FA or two

That's crazy if true. A Beasley with issues is considerably more valuable than Dooling.

A one year rental with a possible high reward, I'd do it, but I can't see Bird taking the chance. Credit to him, he has cleaned up the culture, and he doesn't need Beasley having a PR problem.

Still Beasley has talent, and some GM will take him if offered a Dooling type deal.

now the question in this case is what would you rather have? sh$t or explosive diarrhea? as much as i like sh$tting, i might actually opt for the explosive diarrhea.

There must be something else to this. I can see these rumors just being rumors. Beasley is a moron if he doesn't play lights out this year.

If this rumor is true Bird has to consider calling Miami up.... Beasly has the potential to easily take pressure of Granger offensively..... IMO.

EDIT: the only thing is we do this now Bird might not draft a defensive big, which we need and i pray he drafts.

South Beach probably isn't the best place for Beasley.
