Not really the awards so much as I don't really know who qualifies or who to nominate/vote for.

International sounds cooler and sounds less negative. On only those grounds, I think it works.
“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” - Winston Churchill

“If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to serve as a horrible warning.” - Catherine Aird

This is what happens when your 'to-read' list is overwhelmingly full of critical social theory - and suddenly you have no more time to read the goods! Rest assured, I'll leave the problematizing for outside of PD.

    NOOOOOOOOO.

Seriously, don't do this. No matter how many extra hours of reading/sleep it costs you, you must always read more of "the goods" than you do critical theory. Even if the difference is only 51%-49%. I've been keeping up with (mostly literary) criticism for a long time now, and it's almost embarrassing how many "critics" these days are willfully ignorant of our literary tradition. Don't make their mistake! I know it can seem like a chore, but the slow internalization of the treasure trove of insanely good **** that constitutes our literary heritage is something that changes you—changes you as a person, thinker, and creator—in ways that the theory can't. Seriously. I know it can seem kind of superfluous, but it really is embarrassingly obvious when an intellectual has excused themselves of absorbing our literary heritage in order to read more of what's "hot." (I'm sure you see this a lot—I remember a year ago I read that somebody was going to grad school to study Lacan, because he was The Big Thing at the time, and thus most likely to land him a job.) They lack a certain amount of perspective, and much of what they write reads like they just sort of drooled onto the page.

If you're interested in being an original scholar—a scholar who contributes something new and valuable, and doesn't simply re-hash—, you must risk not being totally "up" on the latest academic trends. This has always been the case. E.g., I'm reading a bio of Milton right now, and he eschewed the Sophist-ish academic fads of his day in favor of an authentic devouring of past wisdom. Milton of course is one of our most original thinkers ever, and all those who contented themselves with the fads of his day were swiftly forgotten.

Take a random leap of faith and do this: for two months, wake up early and read Whitman for one hour each morning. Also, slowly read through Don Quixote. That which you gain from doing this will be infinitely more valuable than a couple dozen more hours spent with social theory texts—plus, you'll get more out of the time you spend with those texts.

Folks, lets just get back on track. This is a BASKETBALL forum. It's not meant for this kind of stuff. I'm not calling out anybody at all, so don't think I am, but let's start acting like mature adults and get back to the topic.

I think I have been eligible for best Non-American poster. Both of us were nominated at some point. But I never post in the Pacers thread so most board members don't know my post style and how awesome I really am.

My thanks to Roaming Gnome for being a mediator in all of this.

Things have been settled; sweabs has returned.

While I feel my original interpretation was understandable and justified, I now believe that sweabs did not mean that the way that I took it, and I hope that he also understands where I am/was coming from.

I believe cooler heads have officially prevailed.

I think people get annoyed sometimes with too much "political correctness" and worrying over minor things regarding terminology. This is where Hicks was coming from I think. However, I thought your suggestion was on topic and fairly appropriate. It was more about finding a more accurate and all encompassing term than it was to imply being truly offended.

Cause at the end of the day, who cares. Its a fake awards show on an internet forum.

Bingo. I just started looking over the list critically, and recognized that we could probably find something better to label that award while we were revamping everything.

So we're going with International Poster of the Year?

Just a reminder to everyone, t bird is eligible for his old awards with the inception of the hall of fame. ABADays isn't eligible for his award and Mourning and Magic Rat are retired from International and Most Humorous respectively.

Also, here's what's happening with the HoF. 4 wins in a single category gets you in. You'll be listed as a HoFamer in the Hall thread and the award thread every year. You will have an induction "ceremony" and you can pick someone to enshrine you. The ceremonies will take place the following year from your 4th win, so our rookie class will be inducted this year and if T Bird should win this years best arm chair coach, he would go in next year. There will be a contributors wing and ABA Days will also have a special spot.
