    Inessential awards
Best Debator - Unless everyone disagrees, I think this category can go. The Darksider/Sunshiner/Moderate awards cover this I think and generally one of those posters is arguing/debating the most.
I actually think this could be a viable consideration. Assuming it's clearly defined to mean the person most likely to maintain a civil discourse and present logical arguments even in the face of an overwhelming lack of support. A person that gets you to change your mind or a person that you can respect even in disagreement.

Now, if it's going to be just be 'most argumentative'... IOW an award for whoever is most likely just to argue a point on emotion alone more for the sake of argument itself rather than furthering the discussion or presenting a bigger overall picture... THEN that is an award that I'd consider of little value.

BTW... I'm going to nominate UncleBuck for Most Moderate. I can easily see this discussion:

Forumite: Breaking news. Jim O'Brien just went postal and executed the whole team.

UncleBuck: I'm never for violence and I personally wouldn't always do things like Jim O'Brien but I think we need to understand he's coaching this team the way he thinks is best. I'm sure people are going to pile onto him now but what coach could've gotten any more out of this team these last few years?

Poster You Love to Hate - Covered by Darksider generally.
Since Bball and I are generally the '80s Lakers vs. '80s Celtics of this award (and you know which one I'm NOT!), I feel compelled to point out that Darksider/ Most Pessimistic has never won "Poster you love to hate."

(PS, you know its been a really bad season when everyone else is more of a Darksider than either of us.)

    My only nominations are these:

    "Coach" category - imawhat
    Most optimistic - Bball, Peck
    Best Kegboy - Seth, Grace
    ABA Citizen award - ABADays
    OTPOY - Anthem
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

I don't see how I can be nominated for anything other than "who?"

I think the Best Kegboy catagory has run its course. More than half the people around here weren't even around to know why it came about.

That would be too hard to tell.

    Maybe, "most accurate prognostication?"

Sweabs, T-Bird is ineligible for his own award.

Mourning has expressed that he does not feel his output is up to the standards of the best Non-American poster award this year. I think that if anyone is worthy of an award named after him, it's Mourning since he has won every Best Foreigner award but 2 (one when KStat won since it meant best non pacer fan and one by able).

So what does everyone think about the Best Foreign Poster award being changed to the Mourning Award?

All due respect to Mourning, but I'd prefer to "retire" people from eligibility, rather than name the award after them. Obviously ABA days is a special case.

I'd advise creating a hall of fame for anybody that's won an award at least 5 times.

It wasn't about being the team everyone loved, it was about beating the teams everyone else loved.

FYI, Nobody by my count has won five awards in anything yet. Only five people have won as many as three.

    Mourning- 4x best foreign poster
    Unclebuck- 3x MVP
    DisplacedKnick- 3x best non-pacers fan
    bball- 3x darksider
    Naptown Seth- 3x argumentative/debater

I also must have missed the vote on this, but I we have two awards named after people that have only won in their category 2-3 times. I assume this was in anticipation of them winning the award so often that the category becomes stale, but I was wondering if we could reverse the vote on this, give them credit for the year that they were ineligible due to the award being named after them, and let them go get their five. As it stands, Peck is in position to garner more armchair awards than the guy we named the award after. Much as I respect Peck, how is that going to look 2-3 years from now when Peck has more than twice as many "tbird" awards as tbird himself?

Doing so would give Magicrat 4 most humorous awards, and thunderbird 3 armchair awards. I think it would be more meaningful to vote them into the hall of fame rather than arbitrarily eliminating them from candidacy out of boredom.

I would also add an addendum stating that once a poster become hall-eligible, the forum as a whole (or a pre-selected committee) can then cast a vote to name the award after him or her.

Shoot, we could even have a HoF poster select another poster for an induction speech. I think if done right, it would be hilarious.

I actually like that idea a whole lot, KStat!

    Any thoughts?

Although I think if someone wins four times, or heck, even 3 they should probably be HOF eligible.

I suggested 5, because its an attainable goal, while still being very, very difficult and reflecting going above and beyond for the better part of a decade, if not longer.

PD has been around seven seasons. We only have one poster (possibly two) that is in position to be voted into our hall of fame (by the standards I set up), but there are another five posters that could possibly go in next year, with a favorable vote in 2010.

It just seems like the right number to me. Nobody's hall-eligible at this second, but we have a handful of long-timers that are close.

    Pig Nash,

Recommend you just make your best judgement on this year's categories. Once the categories are finalized, I'll put in my noms.

Default Re: The 2010 PD Forum Awards! (Nominations and Discussion)

OK! So things are starting to come together. Here are some things:

    The PD Forum Awards HoF:

Kstat brought this up instead of naming awards after posters (other than the ABADays Citizenship Award which I'll get to later) we should a.) give them credit for the times the award was named for them, b.) put the original names back on the award, and c.) induct them into the PDFAHoF once they reach 5 wins. (I think this should be across categories and you are retired from winning either if you get inducted, you would still be eligible for other awards then.)

Once inducted I think you should get a thread where you get someone to make a "speech" about how great/awesome/funny/smart/terrible you are and then you can thank people! It'll be fun.

At the beginning of each future PDFA I would list the members of the HoF and multiple time award winners that are getting close to be inducted.

This would of course mean MR and TBird could be nominated for their old awards. Any objections? What do TBird and MagicRat think (since they would lose their spots as the award namers)?

    Current Awards

    Pacers ToTY
    OT ToTY
    Most Humorous Poster
    Best Debator
    Best Non-American Poster
    Best Non-Pacer Fan
    Sunshiner of the Year
    Moderate Poster of the Year
    Darksider of the Year
    Post More Often
    Best Arm Chair Coach
    Rookie of the Year
    OTMVP
    MVP

Some notes: please provide a link to the thread you are nominating, and due to lack of response OTPOY and Pacers Post of the Year are gonna retire this year, posters get credit for the posts that start a OTTOTY and PTOTY winner so unless anyone has any problems with that, these are the awards, except for...

    The ABADays Outstanding Citizen Award

This is going to be an honorary award. I think we'd all like to recognize (as LA said) generosity, willingness to help others, and openness. I think this is both on the board or if you know someone on the board in person, in real life. If you have a poster you think is worthy of the award, send me your nominations in a PM. I'd like a.) the poster, b.) why you think they should win the award, c.) a story that illustrates your point with a link to the thread(s) (or if it's real life, any documentation about it would be great but that's not entirely necessary)

Then I'll go through the entries and choose the best one (I will try to enlist a few people to help with this) and I'll post the winner along with the story and your case(s) for the poster at the end of the awards. Nominations will end at the end of June so we can go through them.

    Nominations and the voting process

Nominations are going really well and I'm getting a lot of posters who you guys are recognizing, which is great. I'm going to leave this thread up through the end of the finals and you can continue to put names up for the different awards.

We're starting a bit later than normal but they generally take about a month. I'm gonna do it over 5 weeks. Here's how the voting is gonna break down for this year's set.

Week 1: I'm going to put up threads (up to 14 if every category has more than 3 nominees) with every nominee for votes to narrow down the fields. At the end of the week the top 3 (if there are ties for the third spot I'll extend it) vote getters for each category will go to the finals.

Week 2 Finals: Most Humorous Poster, Best Debator, Best Non American Poster, Best Non Pacer Fan (I'll post at the beginning of the week and voting will go through the end of the week.)

Week 3 Finals: Sunshiner, Darksider, and Moderate Poster of the Year, and the Post More Often Award

Week 4 Finals: Pacers Thread of the Year, OTToTY, Best Arm Chair Coach, and Rookie of the Year

Week 5 Finals: OTMVP and MVP (and The ABADays Oustanding Citizenship Award winner will be announced after)

    That's fairly extensive. Any questions?
