Gears of War also needs mentioning, even though I didn't get as much playing time in on the second game...

Gears is my favorite multiplayer. Death means something, which makes it much more stressful. Plus, no teabagging.

    In roughly chronological order...

    Adventure (Atari 2600)
    Pitfall (Atari 2600)
Zork (DEC PDP, then Apple II)
    Wizardy (Apple II)
    M.U.L.E. (Atari 400/800)
Reach For the Stars (Apple II)
    Civ II (PC)
    Total Annihilation (PC)
    Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (PC)
    Half-Life (PC)
Knights of the Old Republic (PC)

    I'm sure I'm missing a few favorites, but that's a off-the-top-of-my-head list.

And Kegboy, Alpha Centauri is the best Civ...

I left this one off my top 10 list...

... but it was a pretty good game.

    10. DDR - Yeah, I was one of those DDR guys, but hey, it was fun, even if it made you look like a moron. This game was really the arcade industry's swan song.

    9. Mega Man 2 - The only Mega Man game I owned as a kid, and I dedicated hours upon hours to it, Flame Man's stage in particular. I never beat it until recently.

    8. Super Smash Bros. - My second-favorite multiplayer game, and most-favorite fighting game.

    7. Myst - Maybe it's just the 11-year-old in me playing this in my friend's dark basement talking, but I still think this remains of the creepiest, most atmospheric games ever made.

    6. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Does anyone remember how ridiculously hyped this game was? And it completely lived up to it.

    5. Final Fantasy VI - It's hard to pick just one FF game, and while there have been ones with better gameplay and better plots, overall VI is the best. The opera sequence and the World of Ruin twist don't hurt. (Also strongly considered VII, IX, and XII.)

    4. Mario 64 - I still vividly remember the incredible feeling of playing this for the first time.

    3. Super Mario Bros. 3 - Maybe the best game of all time.

    2. Rock Band/Rock Band 2 - The only game to ever effect my life outside of gaming (I started learning how to play drums). Plus it's the best party game ever.

    1. Chrono Trigger - Flawless.

    Honorable Mentions:
    Dr. Mario
    Halo
    Mario Kart 64
    Metroid Prime
    NBA Jam
    Portal
    Resident Evil 2
    SimCity 3000
    Sonic the Hedgehog 2
    Xenogears

Chrono Trigger is the greatest game ever made. Period.
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

Downloaded the remastered TMNT for PS3 haha, so much fun.

Oregon Trail was the bomb. I remember every kid loving the day when their class got to go to the computer lab and play Oregon Trail. I miss those days. Nothing like your sister getting cholera and shooting some Buffalo.

Ha, sweet on the TMNT. Ha and you are actually right on the computer lab and Oregon Trail. Nothing like "Here lies the body of (insert hated classmate or teacher)" Praying the ferry makes it across, and you must be could b/c all I could shoot was a squirrel

Exclamation Awesome Video Games that we should ALL still Play!

Man... a lot of good games mentioned but I've yet to see Mortal Kombat picked as a kontender... and what about Killer Instinct?

    In no particular Order...

    Mario 64
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

    Golden Eye
    Mortal Kombat Fatality FTW!

Halo CE & Halo 3: because Halo 3 would not exist with out CE... CE is like the ground floor, nay, a steadfast foundation and Halo 3 is the Penthouse. You can't have trump tower with out its foundation but everyone comes to see the view
Oblivion IV: the Elder Scrolls (360) This game is HUGE! Playing it to this day.

    Metal Gear: Solid
    Star Fox 64

    Sonic the Hedgehog(s)
    Mario Kart 64

Gnome, I played The Guardian Legend too. It was solid but I guess I don't like it as much as you do. I do have a friend though that thought it was the greatest game ever made and I almost guarantee he still has his copy of it.
