This is sad news! I haven't been in the digest world very long but I remember meeting him at last years draft party, I didn't know anyone from the digest except for Peck. As we were up in legends as was sitting with another guy from work now know as knicksrgarbage and abadays just came up there to where we were sitting by the rail, say down and started talking to us like he had know us his whole life. What a great guy! I really enjoyed our conversation, he was an amazing man espically considering all he had been through. And after talking to him you wouldn't have known he ever faced anything bad in is life. He was a very humble man!

He will be missed! I would like to suggest to the admin that he's screen name be "retired" and possible make him an honorary admin, I know it real doesn't mean much to anyone but us, but if he knew I'm sure he would be over joyed!!!

My condolences to his family, he'll be missed by all and can't say enough about how kind he was and well, he did stand out for me because of his beliefs and his hard work and dedication in the middle east, something not many of us are brave enough to achieve...

    You are missed...

I'm dumbstruck. I have no words. I was fortunate enough to meet with him 3-4 times the last with his lovely wife. My heart aches for her and her loss. Our loss I will not feel for a while....but I will miss my buddy from the ABA days.

    Very sad news.

ABADays was a great person here on the forums, and from everything I've read on here, in life, too.

RIP, it's a shame you never saw the Pacers get an NBA championship, but I'm glad you saw a Colts Super Bowl victory in your life.

Can anyone say what he did in Iraq?
He was in charge of the MWR facilities on Balad AD in Iraq.

The gym's in Balad are known to be the best in the AOR. ABA Days did that. Been in the Air Force for almost 13 years now.

The gym and other MWR facilities are extremly important to the troops.

They run Phone centers where we are able to contact our families back home.

ABA Days was in Iraq for a long time he made Balad the place to be in Iraq. I know that is the place I am trying to get to on my next tour. ABA Days built all of that.

We didn't just lose a Pacer fan we lost a true patriot that has single handedly helped thousands upon thousands of our troops adjust to the deployed enveroment.

Thoughts are with his family and friends. I often wonder how many people need to die before we find a cure for cancer.

I didn't know the guy but just from reading what everyone has said about him there aren't nearly enough people like him in this world. If we had more people like him the world we live in would be a much, much better place.

Although like many, I never met the man, he was a great contributor to our board, and to our country.

It's quite amazing how some of us have never even met, yet we are like best friends. I know many of you are like that to me, and I know ABADays had a lot of friends on here.

Rest in Peace buddy... you'll be missed

This doesn't surprise me; not after everything else I've read about him.

He sounds like a really honorable and charitable person; one I would've liked to know better. A real role model. Godspeed.

I did not meet ABADays, but like many here have followed the "in Iraq" thread and enjoyed reading his insights over the years. From these responses, with the examples of his generosity, and the passion that he threw into his work, it's obvious we have lost someone special. It sounds like we have had the pleasure of knowing a very rare individual, one who is widely known not for what he amassed in life, but for what he gave to others.

Wow, missed reading PD a few days and find this. God bless you John and God bless your family. I know you're reading from Heaven, so just a tip, LB may still get his bronze, they're still working on it.

As a long-timer lurker, I'ce long appreciated the candor and intelligence of his posts. Reading the stories in this thread, it's become abundantly clear that John was a truly exceptional human being.

Visiting his public profile, I noticed today was his birthday. Happy Birthday, John. Rest in peace.

    WOW... R.I.P.

This saddens me on many levels- he was one of the few guys on here with ABA memories (though I was a tyke back then), he bravely served our country, and he fell victim to a disease, cancer, that I and so many others in the research community are trying to eradicate.

I never had the pleasure to have met him in person, but from all I gather, that was my loss. A very sad day indeed.
