Default What is your first Pacers memory?

As we wait for the draft and the off-season to pick up steam, I thought it might be fun to find out what everyone's first Pacers memory is.

This doesn't have to be a major moment for the franchise. Just the first thing you clearly remember about the Pacers in your life.

Also, here are two bonus questions...

What is a long-running, popular TV show that for some reason you have never seen a single episode of, even after years of syndication?

What is the first major news story you remember?

    My answers...

    1. Listening to the Pacers play the Utah Stars on the radio in the ABA playoffs, and the excitement of the Pacers coming back from a 3-0 series deficit against the Stars to force Game 7 in Utah (where the Pacers were killed). I think this was probably 1974 and I was 8 years-old.

1.) Getting to play at half time of a game in probably 74 or 75 as one of those little kid scrimmages. Getting to meet Billy Keller and George McGinnis through my Dad who grew up with them.

2.) That Erkle show or whatever it's called.

3.) Sonny and Cher breaking up, I think it was.

    1. That's a cool first memory!

    2. That would be Family Matters, a show I may have seen once or twice when it was first on, but have "enjoyed" about a million times now that my kids watch it on Nick or whatever network it is that shows it!

My first Pacer memory is listening to Jerry Baker doing a Pacers vs Pitt Pipers game
on the radio back in about 1969.

I've never seen either a Law and Order or CSI episode.

Prolly the JFK assasination in 1963. I was 6 at the time.

Note: That Pitt Pipers team featured Connie Hawkins.

1.) My first game was Hawks vs. Pacers in 1992 or 1993. I don't remember much about it, but 'Nique Wilkins was playing for the Hawks and they beat us bad. The first game I really remember was Pacers getting smashed by the Nuggets on throw-back night. I think this was in 1994 or 1995. A bunch of our guys wore fro wigs in the layup drill.

2.) I have never seen Friends, Lost, or the Wire.

3.) Vague memories of Gulf War I on CNN. I remember Operation Desert Fox quite well (1998)

1.) Visiting MSA when Larry and the Celtics were in town. Watching the playoff series with Larry banging his head off the parque and returning to play. After that series is when I really started following the Pacers. I always rooted for Larry to do well, but for Indiana to win.

That's not "old." I can't remember my first pacers memory either, to be honest.

I remember the McKey trade, the 4pt play, MJ's first game back, the 94 orlando series. I remember going and watching the Pacers play the Rockets in Indy, because Montel Jordan was the halftime show and he performed "This is how we do it." My dad teases me once in a while over Dominque Wilkens because he said I used to run around the house jumping and saying "Dominque."

But as far as a "first," I have no clue as to the order they happened without looking them up. Well I know the Rockets game wasn't the earliest, because I was in 4th grade, but it was still pretty early in the formation of my love for the Pacers.

Question #2: No clue. I've not watched Little House, nor have I watched Cheers.

Question #3: I would proabably say Desert Storm. I remember it pretty well because one of my sisters just got married to her husband, and he went overseas with his Marines. I had to be probably 5 or just turned 6.

    EDIT: Actually I was 4. Aug. 1990.

    1. My first Pacers game. They were playing the Bucks and John Long hit a 3 from the top of the key as time expired for the win. I would love to find a clip of that, but I'm not sure when exactly it was--'86 maybe?

    2. MASH

    3. I remember my dad telling me about the Colts moving here, but I remember actually watching the Challenger space shuttle explosion.

first real game: 1971? Fairgrounds coliseum, warm fall afternoon, smell of cattle from previous rodeo wafting through the air...

first exhibiton game: 1970? preseason game at Seymour High School. In those days they barnstormed the state to play in some of the bigger high school gyms (Seymour seats over 8K).

Before that... jerry Baker on the radio, probably 1969 when I was 6.

I was more excited about his daughter Hannah Storm, though I was 4 and she was 5. She was hot for 5, though.

I remember Granville Waiters, I remember the telethon, I remember the trade to acquire Tom Owens, I remember when they traded Alex English for McGinnis, I remember when I truly thought Wayman was the savior of the franchise, I remember my first playoff game in 1987, I remember the disdain that so many had for the Pacers back in the 80's,

I remember when all home games started at 8 PM and none of the home games were on TV and only about 18 of the road games were on TV. I remember going to a game with my dad in the early 80's during a bad snowstorm and we got to sit down really low because no one was there. I remember Kellogg's winning shot to beat the Celtics, I was at that game. I remember the fans hating Herb Williams, which I didn't understand. I remember when MSA was new.

I remember when Rick Sobers was my favorite player, I remember when Scott Skiles quit the team and had to be talked back by Donnie Walsh.

I remember the year Jack Ramey got fired after the team started 0-13. I remember when the Pacers lost to the Knicks on the last play of the last game of the regular season, thus not making the playoffs. I remember really wanting Ralph Sampson on the Pacers.

I remember listening to ever game on the radio.

I remember the day reading the morning paper on the school bus when the Simons bought the team, realizing how big a moment that was, I remember that, I remember which seat I was sitting on and remember to this day reading the paper.

I remember a lot of things, just not sure what is the earliest memory.

OK, I just remembered sort of my first game I attended in person. I think I was in 5th or 6th grade - no I wasn't that young, my family never took me, but a family friend had season tickets through work for the Racers and the pacers. Great, great seats, we were so low for the hockey that we were in the first row, we could touch the glass (or I guess it is plastic) and the pacers tickets were same exact seats, which was about row 5 or 6, right behoind the scorers table.

I went to the Hockey game about 10 days or so prior to the Pacers game. I remember telling my mom when I got home from the Pacers game that I liked the Pacers game soooo much more, my mom wouild tell the story later about how I wouldn't shut up from that day forward about the Pacers.

Not a specific memory, being at a game with my grandparents who were long-time season ticket holders. Pacers destroyed the Bulls, I looked it up and it was February 2nd, 1986...I was 8.

Probably the Challenger explosion, which was around that same time, happening on January 28, 1986.

Sadly, I watch too much TV so I guess the answer would be Frasier...Seemed like a popular show but I never watched it.
