    Default Pretty Funny from Brewer:

The Pacers struggled from the floor against Denver on Thursday, shooting just 33 percent (19-of-58), including 18 percent (4-of-22) from beyond the 3-point line.

The Pacers scored only 13 second-half points (six in the third quarter, seven in the fourth), marking the lowest scoring total of the week.

"I don't know what to tell you," said Pacers point guard Jamison Brewer, who made 1-of-8 shots, dished out four assists and had eight turnovers. "One day we're scoring 90 points and the next day we can't get 50. It's ridiculous."

Wow like he made much of a difference. Yup he is the superstar savior of the team. People need to realize he isnt the answer at the 15th spot on the team. The guy is horrendous except for so called DEFENSE

Personally, I don't see the problem in having a defensive specialist as your 15th man. Especially one who dresses as well as Siggy. That's by far the most important aspect of someone on the IR. Very underrated.

Oh, and it should be noted that unless we sign someone else, he's fighting to be the 14th man.

Seriously, when you get down that low, the only function these guys serve is as practice players. I can think of worse things than Jamaal having to practice against a defender of Brewer's caliber every day.

Speaking of that, I was at a bar where they showed that clip last night, along with misc. shots of Iverson dribbling, shooting, etc. The sound was off, so I didn't catch the point. Is there any grist in the Iverson Rumor Mill?
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

Practice? We're talking about practice? I mean, c'mon...practice! It's just practice! It's not like it's a real game we're talking about.
    Practice?

It's too bad Brewer was not on the playoff roster in place of Anderson, who basically didn't play anyway.

Three minutes here, two minutes there against Rip Hamilton, and it could have been the Pacers going to the Finals instead of the Pistions.

But what the hell? It's only the 14th or 15th roster position, right?

Yup your right. Brewer cancels himself out. He is ok on defense, but what about the other end of the floor. We cant get into our offense with this guy. Especially if he cant even do it in the summer league.

I think you missed the sarcasm.

I think I was probably the only person on here who was shouting that Brewer should be on the playoff roster rather than Kenny.

75% of everybody else was saying that Kenny should be our backup instead of AJ.

.... and here I was being ridiculed because I was saying that Kenny shouldn't even ahve been on the roster.

We had injuries in the playoffs - JO and Tinsley.

But even with those injuries, I believe we could have gone to the finals if we either had a player that could consistently score from the perimeter OR we had someone who could slow down Rip Hamilton.

Clearly, no one could consistently hit the broad side of a barn in the ECS.

But we had the other half of the equation covered, if we had only put Brewer on the playoff roster.

So, I totally agree with Kegboy.... if we don't even have the 14th roster position filled, there is absolutely nothing wrong with pencilling in Brewer to the 15th spot.... until a defensive PG with better all around skills presents himself.

    BTOWN -

I caught your meaning, I thought I'd use it though to make a point, hoping someone would bite.

VERY good point about making Tins work in practice.

BING-F"ING-O!! Or how about against WADE! I was really surprised that Rick didn't consider that, and posted it at the time. can't imagine how most here can't grasp that.

Yeh, AJ is SO much better at running an offense.
Fact is Freddie or Artest started the offense MOST OF THE SEASON when AJ was in the game. NO reason that couldn't continue with Brewer in the game.

I was AL is a Beast last season and I started a thread with that very subject when they released the playoff roster.. I REALLY thought a defensive minded coach like Rick would make that move. It bothered me quite a bit BEFORE we played any games. I mean quality pg's were scorching us all season. What was/wasn't he thinking??????
It was actually the first time that I had the thought, "wow this guy ISN"T a hoops genius", just seemed like such an obvious move.

I think some of you are confused between last years team and the 2003 team under Isiah.

The reason I say that is because you keep saying the Pacers were scorched last season by quality point guards. I don't remember that being a problem at all, it was a huge problem in Isiah's last season, huge.

What point guards really hurt the Pacers, I don't recallthat being a consistant problem.

Bibby had a very good game in Indy this past season, but he was just hiitting outside shots, not like he was getting to the basket.

You know, Buck, you're right. It really wasn't a big problem this year. Billups didn't even hurt us much in the ECF. I mean, Wade did his thing, but I don't think anyone was going to stop him when he was on like that.

Buck, I agree with your statement.

Point guards didn't burn us many times during the season. I felt that, with a few exceptions, Tinsley and our other PGs did a pretty decent job keeping themselves between the man and the basket.

But, not necessarily restricting it to point guards, our team was very susceptible to GUARDS with excellent speed. Quick guards, whether PGs or SGs, were able to penetrate the lane.

    Billups, TJ Ford, Hamilton,...

Don't restrict your thinking that, just because we put Brewer in the game, that he is going to cover the PG.

Putting together a playoff roster should be nothing more than taking all your horses to the game, then filling in the remaining spots with your leftovers in order to cover all of your bases.

I don't know. Maybe Carlisle thought that Freddie was going to be his defensive specialist in the backcourt. If so, then fine. He had a plan for covering the speedsters, and it just didn't work out.

But I think most would agree that Brewer is one of the best defensive guards in the league. Can't do much else, but he can play defense. It just seems to me that Carlisle did a poor job of covering an exposure that we had defensively in our backcourt. I said that before the playoffs even began, and hindsight being what it is, I'll stick to that story even today.

And so far, I don't see anyone who has been added to our roster capable of defending a backcourt speedster one-on-one.

So, IMO, until something better comes along, I think the Pacers should be prepared to cover that exposure with Brewer. At $700K - $800K for the season, I think that is a pretty cheap insurance policy. We just have to remember to use it next season if we haven't found another solution prior to the playoffs.

When talking of quick guards, I do NOT include Billups with Ford and Hamilton.
