Default About FA Market of 2010-2011 - Which are "Batmans" and which are "Robins"?

I was thinking about some Article written about Walsh not considering giving Max Contracts to Players like Bosh or Joe Johnson....and this made me think....of the crop of 2010 Free Agents that will hit the market....which one would you consider are Franchise Level Players that you build around ( aka "Batman" of Gotham City...or Michael Jordan if you want a clearer NBA analogy ) and which are the Top Tier Free Agent that are better supporting Player ( aka "Robin" of Gotham City or Scottie Pippen to Michael Jordan ).

IMHO....there are only 3 Franchise Level Players that you build around ( hence deserve a MAX Contract ):

    Lebron
    Wade
Kobe ( if he decides to opt out out )

As for the rest of the FA Market, I think that they are better suited to be the 2nd best Player on the Team to support a Franchise Level Player ( they deserve a huge contract but not a MAX Contract ) but not in any particular order:

    Bosh
    Joe Johnson
    Amare

I'm sure that there are more....these were just the ones that popped into my head.

I'm guessing that the Top Tier Franchise Players like Lebron/Wade/Kobe resign/extend their Contracts with their respective Teams....thus leaving the 2nd Tier Players like Bosh/JJ/Amare/Boozer to be the top signing options for Teams like NY, Chicago and NJ. You have wonder if they are going to be overpaid or not.

It sounds like DW is may spread out the $$$ spent on Players over the next 2 Offseasons and not overspend on talent in one offseason "just because"....which IMHO would be a smarter thing to do.

    Thoughts anyone?

BTW.....IMHO...I think that Granger would be a much better "Robin" then a "Batman". The best that I can hope for us in the future is that we acquire another "Robin" Level Player that complements him so that we have 2 top tier Players on the roster.

I think Wade and Kobe are the only ones who stay on their teams. 'Bron and Johnson go to NY, Amare goes to Miami, and Bosh is Chicago's consolation prize. Just my guess.

Batman's and Robin's what? Their luggage? Their contracts? Their toothbrushes?

Good post! Just what I've been thinking. Granger has his moments, but he doesn't have the elite athleticism of Wade, Kobe, and James, so he can't turn it on at will like they can.

Usually when we win it's because Granger and someone else is having a good game. If we had two guys like Granger that complimented each other that would be as good as having an elite player. That would be like having Pierce and Joe Johnson. In other words, one of them will score and do the other team in.

Right now it's pretty much as Granger goes, so goes the Pacers.

What we need to get out of the next two drafts, and summers, is another Robin, and a player than plays good defense in the post. If we can do that we will be a contender again.

Batman's are those things bought and/or paid for by millionaire Bruce Wayne, likely including Robin himself if the truth were to be told. Robin's are those things that Bruce Wayne allows his ward Dick Grayson to utilize while helping him keep Mr. Freeze from turning him into a Bat-sicle, or even WORSE threats during either that episode or the following, always to be shown "Same Bat-time, Same Bat-channel!".

You'd think we'd be able to afford a Batman or two, bought by billionaire Herb Simon.

If we could somehow sneak into the picture for a S&T route for a Joe Johnson, Bosh or Amare level player I'd be hyped to the hill. I really doubt that we are able to do this though.

Clearly the most important thing to a Batman and a Robin......whoever handles the drycleaning of their costumes and capes.

I wasn't really thinking of where they would be going as much as whether you think that any of them are Franchise-level Players ( Batman ) or whether you think they are better suited to be a Top-Tier Supporting Player ( Robin ). Obviously....Batman deserves a Max Contract...whereas Robin deserves something less ( but still a huge contract ). I guess part of the problem with so many Teams going after Big FAs ( I count at least 4 with NY, Chicago, NJ, Miami...and there maybe more )....someone is going to be left out in the cold. I remember years ago when the best FA that Chicago could get was Eddie Robinson.....you have to wonder if some Team is going to overpay a "Robin" at the price of of a "Batman".

BTW.....After Batman was supposedly killed in the most recent DC Comics Major Storyline.....Dick Grayson did take over the mantle of Batman...in essense.....Robin became Batman. To carry this analogy over to the NBA World......it could be technicaly possible for a "Robin" to become a "Batman" if given time.

I'd love Bosh, and to a degree JJ, but I'd really worry about Amare's knees...and if he can't carry a team with a top notch PG like Nash, I think he'd have a tough time here.

But ultimately I guess I'd be thrilled to land any 3 of them

uh after watching 60 minutes...that russian billionaire is going to draft wall and sign lebron because hes gonna have ties to jay-z his right hand man. not to mention a high 2nd round pick and he will probably sign another decent free agent.

wouldnt be surprised at all if nets compete for top spot in the east next year.

Cool comic, and applicable if I were misapplying "apostrophe's".

I believe a grade adjustment may be in order here. My apostrophe use was showing singular possessiveness of items by Batman individually, and then Robin individually.

Members here would refer to anything that you personally possess as being "Anthem's" because your screen name is singular, as in "That post of Anthem's was spectacular, wasn't it?" or "I wish that I could, just once, have the equivalent of Anthem's wit and insight!"

An example of plural possessive usage that may be seen with regularity going forward might be "Both of the Pacers' five game win streaks this season have been irrelevant and possibly damaging to the Pacers' draft prospects."

Okay...I get it....I misused the use of the apostrophe. I changed the name of the topic.

I'll show my age here. Decades ago, during a multi-part adventure in which Robin was in mortal danger, DC comics took a poll as to whether Batman should save Robin (AGAIN) or whether Robin should finally be killed off.

The OVERWHELMING reader response to to get rid of Robin, so they did.

Apparently, they have allowed the Boy Blunder back.

I'm gonna go all the way into the ditch here.

Ever notice how, in addition to using apostrophes where they shouldn't and omitting them where they belong, people often pluralize names?

I know I guy who recently retired after 30 years working at Lillys. Lots of people buy their groceries at Krogers. And my old mother has made three trip up to Minnesota in the past year to see medical specialists at Mayos.

Okay...OT time....I'll show my Comic-Book geekiness here. That version of Robin that was killed off....did return from the dead as another Batman foe. But the Robin character has been back for years but under the guise of another kid. Even AFTER Bruce Wayne / Batman was recently killed off AND Dick Grayson took over the mantle of being Batman......a new Robin took the place of the previous version of Robin ( who changed his costume and name ). The newest incarnation of Robin happens to be the Son of Bruce Wayne ( yeah, I know...it gets confusing ).

And just like Superman and Captain America.....major charecters that were killed off ( mainly for Sales and Publicity )....Bruce Wayne will be returning soon to Gotham City.

First Robin (circus boy, parents killed in trapeze "accident") = Jason Todd, killed by Joker

Second Robin = ???, later becomes Nightwing

    Third Robin = Dick Grayson

Also, Dick became Nightwing, and is now currently Batman.

Jason was killed by the Joker, then resurrected as Hush, and is currently Red Robin.
