FOXBORO - While the Patriots [team stats]’ voluntary offseason workout progam began Monday, quarterback Tom Brady [stats] has yet to report and is currently in Los Angeles.

Brady, who was photographed walking his new dog yesterday in LA (Inside Track, Page 15) traditionally is one of the first players to participate and often won the preferred parking space awarded to players with the best offseason workout record. A few years back, Brady said he surrendered the parking space because he didn’t “compete” for it. Brady stressed that he still does the required training, just not always in Foxboro because his lifestyle has changed with a wife and two children.

Veteran wide receiver David Patten, who re-signed with the Patriots last month, said yesterday he has yet to have his reunion with Brady, but is not worried about the absence.

While noting that “everyone has different schedules,” he said he is sure Brady is still as diligent as he was when Patten left the Patriots five years ago following their three championship seasons together. Patten expects Brady still has a knack for schooling his receiving corps during the offseason.

“I’m quite sure when he gets in, he’ll get us all on the same page, and we’ll get together and we’ll start throwing together.” Patten said.

Patten, incidentally, will get to wear his old No. 86. Tight end Chris Baker, since released and signed by Seattle, wore it last season.

    Hence the term voluntary.
