For the first time since the 2005 NFL draft, Hank Baskett is an unrestricted free agent.

The Indianapolis Colts did not resign the wide receiver, who joined the team midseason, in a move announced late Thursday.

Baskett, a 2001 Clovis High graduate, played mostly special teams, and drew criticism when he bobbled an onside kick to start the third quarter of Super Bowl XLIV. The Saints, who were trailing 10-6 at the half, scored on the ensuing possession and went on to win 31-17.

Team spokesman Craig Kelley said during the day that the Colts did not expect to make any comments about team moves.

Baskett’s father, Hank Baskett Jr. of Clovis, said other than being able to confirm his son is now a free agent, “You know as much as I do about the situation.”

The elder Baskett said he wasn’t aware of any offers to his son yet from other pro football teams.

The younger Baskett has played four seasons in the National Football League, mostly with the Philadelphia Eagles, who released him in the second week of last season to make room for quarterbacks Michael Vick and Jeff Garcia. Baskett signed with the Colts two days later.

Baskett has caught 76 passes for 1,080 yards, with six touchdowns in his career.

He was not selected in the 2005 NFL draft, but was only a free agent for a few hours before the Minnesota Vikings picked him up. A few weeks later, he was traded to the Eagles.

Attempts to contact Baskett Friday were unsuccessful.

Good... he cost us the Super Bowl in my opinion. Him being unable to hold on to that onside kick was a game changer.

No. But that's more of a testament to the emergence of Collie and Garcon, than it is a knock against him.

If he doesn't hook up with another team soon, Mrs. Baskett will be releasing him also. She's probably a little high-maint and with no income ..............

I don't know about that but its not as if Indy deserved being attached to someone who was nothing but a Hefner whore.

Good riddance you piece of garbage. You cost us the freaking game you terrible excuse of a player, only paid because of your wife. At least Toomer wouldn't have fumbled a ****ing onside kick!
"I keep wondering the same thing. Last week they had the 4th worst record in the league, had an 11.9 percent chance of winning the lottery and were in line to land a franchise type player like Derrick Favors or DeMarcus Cousins. This week? They have a 1.7 percent chance of winning the lottery, have the 8th worst record and are in line to draft Cole Aldrich or Greg Monroe. Way to go Jim O'Brien. Rest Danny Granger the rest of the season (if it isn't too late) and give Josh McRoberts lots of minutes. That ought to do it." - Chad Ford on winning meaningless games

Way to go Jim, you may have just put our franchise back another 4+ years.

When he was brought here, he was highly complimented on his special teams play and he can't recover a damn on-side kick. Peace out!!

Default Hank Baskett returns to the Eagles

    http://www.philly.com/inquirer/sport...to_Eagles.html

Baskett may be coming back to Eagles

    By Jeff McLane

    Inquirer Staff Writer

They brought back Jeremiah Trotter, so there's no reason to think the Eagles won't welcome Hank Baskett back to the nest.

The free agent wide receiver, an Eagle for over three seasons until he was cut last September, will be at the NovaCare Complex today. Baskett, who last played for the Colts, will be joined by free agent running back Justin Fargas, formerly of Oakland.

The Eagles have signed only one free agent one week into free agency - they inked defensive back Marlin Jackson on Wednesday - but adding Baskett and Fargas would address a few minor needs.

When they released Baskett after one game last season, the Eagles were stocked at wide receiver. But they traded rookie Brandon Gibson mid-season, on Monday cut Reggie Brown, and there's ample reason to believe Kevin Curtis won't survive.

So on the same day they signed wide receiver Chad Hall, a free agent who had been dormant for two years, the Eagles essentially announced the return of Baskett.

The 6-foot-4 Baskett would also give the Eagles the size at receiver they lacked after he left. They may want to keep him off their onside "Hands" team. In the Super Bowl, Baskett couldn't hang on to a Saints onside kick that opened the second half and turned the game against the Colts.

Wide receiver Hank Baskett has signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, the team said Friday.

    Hank Baskett

    Baskett

Baskett returns to Philadelphia after spending most of the 2009 season with the Indianapolis Colts. He was released by the Eagles on Sept. 15 after playing one game for Philadelphia.

Baskett, 27, caught five passes last season for 34 yards. He played in 12 games.

"I'm glad we had a chance to get Hank back in Philadelphia," Eagles head coach Andy Reid said in a statement. "Not only has he proven himself to be a productive receiver, but he also does a solid job on special teams. He's a team player and his main focus has and always will be on helping his team win games. On top of all that, he's a quality person."

Keep up the good work, Basketball Fan, bringing in these articles on here all the time keeps this place buzzing a little bit, because we all know even during the NFL season this place can get quiet.

I try to do my part with handling game threads and what not and I'm glad you post all these articles when you could easily decide not to.

My wife watches her show and she (Kendra) raved about Indy and how great it was and how great the people were on there.

Eagles today announced they have signed WR Hank Baskett to a one-year contract.
Just as significant: Kendra is back in Philly.
    via @Adam_Schefter

I'm pretty sure Kendra liked living in Indy, don't know where you are getting that she didnt like it. I was laughing pretty hard when I saw Schefter's tweets because no one would even know who Hank Baskett is if not for Kendra, lol.

I remember hearing Kendra tell Kravitz that she liked it here because everyone was so "neighbory". She also said that she never dreamed that her child would be born a Hoosier, but she said that it would be "cool" (or "neat"-I don't really remember, but it wasn't anything negative).
