"They let him go," said Craig Domann, Lilja's agent. "They said they want to go bigger and apparently are going to get people who fit that philosophy."

I didn't see that one coming.

Safe to say that Pollak is going to get a shot at guard.

Has Bobby Williams resigned with the Bengals? I mean at 6'4 345 lbs he could generate a push..or maybe Rex Hadnot who would be cheaper.

I wouldn't be surprised if we look to draft a guard at the end of the first round now. Definitely didn't see this one coming.

Polian blamed the offensive line for the super bowl lose so this isnt a shocker to me. I expect to see more changes in the coming weeks.

Well the guy they signed (Alleman) is 6-4, 310...

    Lilja is 6-2, 290.
    Devan is 6-2, 306.
    Pollak is 6-3, 301

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if Ugoh is moved to guard next year unless Johnson isn't resigned or something happens with Diem.

Agreed here. Unless Johnson or Diem disappear, I don't think they're going to keep a guy they essentially spent a first-rounder for on the bench for another season.

I really hope Polian knows what he's doing here...Lilja was one of our best lineman...
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

Wrong move IMO. Diem needs to go, not Lilja.

Guess that's why Polian is the GM and I'm not. I'm sure he knows what he's doing.

I'm fine with this. I wasn't impressed with the run-blocking of our guards. (And if you don't have mean + nasty interior lineman, what're the chances of having a strong run game?)

I'm not sure being "one of the best" Colt O-lineman is a compliment anymore. . .

True, but I'll take what I can get. They DID play well in the SB.

They played okay, the Saints were able to get pressure with their front three at times including the last two drives...

Polian is one of the best GMs in the business... he knows what he's doing.

Polian's draft picks have been good. He really only has one true miss with the Colts and that's Rob Morris. Maybe Mike Doss in the 2nd round too, but he was solid before he became a gun totin' head case. The Jury is still out on Ugoh, so we'll see if he can get it turned around. Sanders being injured is not Polian's fault as I think everyone agrees that when Sanders DOES play he's awesome, and the pro bowl appearances and DPoY doesn't hurt either. Where Polian REALLY shines though is in his late round picks and undrafted free agent pickups. Mathis in the 5th round? You've gotta be kidding, that guy is a top 10 pass rusher in the NFL and you paired him with ANOTHER top 10 pass rusher. Jake Scott in the 5th round? When Scott's contract came up, he was so good that other teams were tripping over themselves to trump the Colts offer. Antione Bethea in the 6th round? That's just not fair! Saturday, Brackett, two longtime starters were undrafted FA's and he picked Jeff up after another team cut him.

They also couldn't open any holes at the goalline multiple times this season. Addai did most of his damage running outside the tackles last season.

I'm stunned that they're just letting him go. I didn't think he was on the chopping block. Then again, they probably already have his replacement lined up either through the draft or Free Agency. I don't think they'll fill the position from within.

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.

Mentioned above was Ugoh and Pollak. The one area that I thought lilja excelled in was pulling to the other side of the line to open up holes. Certianly Ugoh has the speed to do that but more importantly he has the bulk to generate a push up front. We defiantly need to be able to just smash it up the middle without pulling our linemen to the outside, IMO.

Anyone get the feeling that Polian is preparing for the fact that Peyton is likely to start dropping off in the production department? Don't get me wrong, I still think that Peyton will be very effective for several more years, but it seems to me that Polian sees the writing on the wall and knows that in time, Peyton will need to rely on a more effective running game. He seems to be putting the pieces in place now so that when that happens, it won't be a dramatic sea change.

It was reported that he recieved the roster bonus. His salary was around 2.2 mill which I could see as too expensive for a guard that is not performing well.

You could be on to something there. I think if Polain was going to do something like that he would wait until Manning was 3/4 years away from retiring and the reason I say that is because most of these guys signed will probably be gone by then.

Polain probably just came to the conclusion that the running game is just not were it needs to be.

I would think it's more along the lines of we need a good running game now because that will open up the passing game even more. Currently, defenses only have to worry about Manning because they know our running game doesn't amount to much. But add a great running game to Manning and you've got an offense that's really hard to defend.

All I have seen is this.

Lilja was due a $1.73 million bonus soon.
