    Common Post Concussion Syndrome Symptoms

The most common symptom is headache. But there can be a variety of headaches - they may feel like tension type headaches, or more like migraine. When we're talking about headache classifications, this could fit into the category of acute post-traumatic headache attributed to mild head injury, or chronic post-traumatic headache.

But the headache isn't alone - it's accompanied by a complex set of other symptoms. Other common symptoms include:
    Dizziness
    fatigue
    irritability
    difficulty sleeping
    anxiety
    trouble concentrating
    memory problems
    sensitivity to noise or light
More Symptoms of Post Concussion Syndrome
Sometimes family members may notice a change in behaviour or personality in someone with PCS. The person may become more moody, may lack interest in favourite activities, may become stubborn and opinionated, depressed, or even overly suspicious. Some of these less-known symptoms include:
    nausea
    vertigo
    fatigue
    ringing in the ears
    blurred vision
    difficulty speaking/communicating
    difficulty understanding instructions
    guilt and fear
    changes in appetite
    decreased sex drive
    loss of hearing
    difficulty smelling and tasting
    aggression
    difficulty tolerating alcohol
    impaired judgement
    difficulty tolerating stress

    How is it treated?

Initial treatment for a concussion is to watch a person closely for any changes in behavior or for any new symptoms. Some people have to stay in the hospital to be watched while others can go home safely.

If the concussion happened during a sports event, be sure to see a doctor before returning to play.

If you have any swelling on your scalp, your doctor may recommend using cold packs to reduce the swelling. He or she may also prescribe a pain medicine or recommend a pain medicine that you can buy without a prescription, such as acetaminophen (for example, Tylenol) or ibuprofen (for example, Advil or Motrin).

At home, rest is the best way to recover from a concussion. Get plenty of sleep at night and take it easy during the day. To prevent a second brain injury, avoid alcohol, illegal drugs, and any activities that could lead to another head injury for a few days or even a few weeks. Your doctor may also tell you not to drive or swim for a while.

Some people feel normal again in a few hours while others have symptoms for weeks or months. It is very important to allow yourself time to get better and to slowly return to your regular activities. It is also important to call your doctor if you are not improving as expected or if you think that you are getting worse instead of better.

he also addressed his job security. he said that is Bird's decision and that if a change is needed he (referring to himself) that he is a big boy.

Hope someone else can listen to fill in the gaps

There is a discussion in that other thread I created. He was talking about McRoberts' poor +/- against the LAL Tuesday.

Not to be chicken little here, but isn't it easier to get another concussion once you've had one. Isn't the more concussion you get the more you can have long term effects. Isn't it almost a given the way he plays he'll be prone to this happening?

This is NOT good. It has been a career ender for several NFL players. It is one of those things that is really hard to get a grip on on just how it is going to affect a player. Concussions seem to reoccur easier each time they happen and this post concussion syndrome has ruined careers. Brian Westbrook is the most recent I know that has been dealing with it. Think Steve Young and Troy Aikmen.

I guess the good thing is is that we have time. Who knows how bad Tyler has it.

Old Jets Wide Receiver was the worst possible story, I'll not talk about it here though.

True, but you always hear about Tyler's bullish style of play. Concussions happen in the league. The way Tyler plays? He's already had his fair share.

Another sad example of this is Ted Johnson of the Patriots.

Well there's a difference between the NFL and the NBA when it comes to concussion-inducing contact.

Here's to Tyler getting healthy for next year.

yeah but he is not hitting nobody with his head or anything like that, maybe a freak accident but not regular Basketball, in that case TJ could be retire by now.

I wouldn't worry about repeated concussions because the way Tyler plays he is more apt to give concussions than receive them. This is getting more weird all the time. Next his ear infection will be the cause oh his groin injury.

Why didn't they just say he had a concussion in the first place? That would be much more reasonable than having an ear infection keep you out for months.

I got a pretty bad concussion in high school playing football. Head on head collision. I cracked my skull and had a bump about the size of a golf ball behind my ear. It kept me out of school for months, just going to neurologists and doing all sorts of tests. So at least now, I understand at least a little bit of what Tyler might be going through.

It makes sense why he is being restricted from doing any activities, because honestly, you can't even if you tried. Some days it's hard enough to even keep your eyes open because of the migraines. But lifting, running around, concentrating in film sessions, etc.. forget about it.

And the worst part is you can't really do much for it. Maybe take something to help you sleep or for the migraines, but that's all temporary and just covers up some of the symptoms. It's going to take a while for his brain and everything to come together, not to mention his timing on the court and getting back in game shape. He's got a long road back ahead of him. Best of luck to Tyler in his recovery though. Concussions are no joke.

The team rather lie about player's injuries or non-injuries or their doctor's are incompetent. In time honored tradition continual pacer injuries to Tinsley, ONeal, Bender, Haskins, etc. would last longer than anyone could imagine. Why they would not say anything about a concussion until now? It took this long to make a diagnosis.

Does anyone know to this day what Tinsley's injury was the year before he was banished?

Do they know when he got this concussion? Was it from receiving some kind of contact while he was playing? Or is it some after effect of the ear infection?

Sure same doctors who can't figure out what's wrong. Seriously, Colts tell you right away season-ending injury and put the guy on injured reserve.

They lied about Peyton because he played with his injuries and they did not want the other teams to know he practically couldn't walk.
