Wow, an eventful day. Of course, no more details? Maybe this is the beginning of the end for Coach Obrien.

Have things gotten this bad, that news like this comes out and it is immediately assumed or hoped it is the coaches fault.

And really you want a player to strangle and try to kill/injure Jim O'Brien - really?

Wells blurb on IndyStar said Solo will join them in Portland, so I wonder if he missed the flight to LA. Just complete speculation on my part, of course.

The Indiana Pacers will have one less big man to use against the Los Angeles Lakers’ frontcourt tandem of Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum on Tuesday.

The Pacers have suspended forward Solomon Jones for a game for “conduct detrimental to the team.”

Pacers coach Jim O’Brien said Jones will meet the team in Portland for Wednesday’s game against the Trail Blazers.

Jones is averaging 4.1 points and 2.8 rebounds in 40 games this season.

Well c'mon guys, Solo did bury an uncontested short-mid range jumper the other night; a direct 'middle finger' to our entire offensive philosophy and teh coaching staff. You cannot let a deep bench player go maverick like that without dropping the hammer.

Do I think you really want Soloman Jones to do to JOB what Spree did to PJ? No I don't think that is what you want. I guess the point I was trying to make is why post what you did, not very funny IMO.

I guess more than anything what bothers me is the total disrespect so many of you show towards Jim O'Brien. Calling him a bozo, stupid, idiot, and many other names which I think is inappropriate.

But then again i am one that gets offended when fans yell things at players, coaches, refs yes even refs and opposing players. I think doing anything more than booing is inappropriate. What really does get me upset though is when I see a 10 or 12 year old sitting with his dad at a game yelling things at the refs and opposing players even if they are mild things and the dad is laughing - that bothers me

if that means I take things too seriously - fine. Next time one of you has a serious problem with the way JOB coaches, I'll just shrug it off and say you are taking all this too seriously

I put this right up there with "if a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound".

    S. Jones most likely would not play anyway so does it really matter?

Okay, I didn't mention it in the Diener thread, but the rumor is that TD was quite the playing time griper. Now he's waived and Solo is suspended for some conduct issue.

Sure seems like something adding up.

I can see people acting like this is paranoia, but let's think about it from the other side. Players know the game and they certainly know their work situation. So if outside fans are looking in and wondering why there is no youth movement, it seems reasonable to think that the younger guys or less used guys are wondering the same thing.

At some point it would seem reasonable that this would boil over a bit.

There's been rotation and style carping going on for months out of various players, often as subtle post-game jabs. Mel Daniels wasn't talking out his rear when he said not everyone was thrilled with the coach's extension. There are some disgruntled players.

I don't think it's all that difficult to see trouble brewing here.
So, wait - TD griping about playing time is supposed to make me feel angry at JOB?

I like Travis and even I don't think he was anywhere near the rotation, even notwithstanding the toe issues (assuming, of course, the Pacers didn't make up the whole toe surgery story and it has been suppressed by the evil collaborative Indy media).

Imagine the howling around here if TD was seeing any playing time at all - there'd be screaming that even being on the floor for 30 seconds was detrimental to AJ.

Usually "conduct detrimental" is a behavior issue, as opposed to being late for practice or game, or missing the plane.

Per twitter: Wells222 Jones' suspension not due to anything off the court, but rather an incident before practice today.

Solo was probably left wide open at the top of the key in practice and didn't launch a 3.

At least this will force OB to play either Hibbert or McRoberts 5 more minutes.

Don't count on Hibbert or McRoberts playing more minutes if anything, we will see Luther Head playing center to shore up those minutes.

First, I'm back to saying that the post BillS quoted might actually be on to something since it wasn't missing a flight.

And Bill, I'm not saying Travis needed PT, I'm saying I think he was griping about it because he looks out there and thinks "why am I not playing at this point", just like Solo, Price, Roy and Josh do.

It's not that you want Diener out there so much, but that it would show that players are getting fed up with the insane PT structure in general. Now is the time you can get some of these guys in there.

Diener is brought up because I heard that he did like to complain, and I mean last year not this year. He did just get released, and then you have Solo at the same time. Seems like an indicator of how some of the players feel, unless you tag TD and Solo as malcontent jerks.

Nope....it just means that we will see a Granger/Murphy/Hibbert PF/C rotation with sprinkles of Dunleavy at the PF spot. McRoberts will still ride the McBench........

Travis Diener was waived on his 28th birthday, reportedly as a favor by the Pacers so he could sign with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Solomon Jones was suspended for "conduct detrimental to the team," said Coach Jim O'Brien.
Apparently we couldnt trade him for even a future pick?

oh well, good for Travis he must be excited

This is really making bricks without straw.

Diener was likely not waived today because he was complaining last year. It is more likely he was waived today so if another team wanted him and could play him they'd be able to do so in the playoffs. Oh, wait, that can't possibly be true, it would mean they did something nice for a player and we know they don't ever do that.

Taking that and saying that it happened for the same reason as the unknown "Conduct Detrimental" is tying two things together without any kind of proof and being able to say "look - prove it ISN'T true" because doing so is not possible.

As I've said many times, there are lots of legitimate issues and things to point to - why do we have to go out to the 10 sigma limit of probability to have something to complain about?
