Default Two years in a row the Bobcats owner nixes our trade

Last year, their owner vetoed Tinsley for Nazr Mohammed, and this year...

Don't look for D.J. Augustin, Gerald Henderson or Nazr Mohammed in a Pacers uniform when they take on the New Orleans Hornets on Friday.

You can't blame Larry Bird for this one, though.

Bird and David Morway tried to pull off a deal for the three but things came to a screeching halt about 10 minutes before the 3 p.m. deadline when the Charlotte Bobcats backed out because their owner didn't want to do the deal, according to a source.

Well, their owner is selling the team. We know he wants Jordan to buy it. Maybe he consulted MJ about the trade, and that is where the snag came from. In any case, he probably just didn't want to make the financial commitment of TJ's contract.

Jordan is the Managing Member of Basketball Operations for the Bobcats, or, basically, their GM. He was probably the one to present it to their owner for approval.

the difference of tj's salary next year ($8.5m) and nazr's ($6.88m) is about $1.6m. relatively small potatoes, but enough to give the bobcats' owner pause, apparently. a shame, as that amount would have helped with our own luxury tax issue.

I have many reasons to not like Bob Johnson... This just adds a little more fuel to the fire.

Maybe he and Nazr are golf buddies.

The deal would have reduced Charlotte's salary by about $1 million in total for next year...it actually would have hurt our LT issue next year, but would have been worth it for the prospects.

Is there a reason anyone thought this was a good trade? Ya'll think Ford is bad? Augustin is worse and anyone who thinks Henderson has more potential than Rush is delusional. Mohammed has had a good year, would have been nice to have him, but lets not act like he's a huge player...he isn't.

The deal (just judging from the names we're aware of) was all about trading away 1 young prospect and getting 2 in return.

And yes, most people think TJ Ford is bad.

Agree to disagree. On the subject of player evaluations, referring to someone as delusional simply for thinking there's something good about him is over the top at best.

Just out of curiosity does this have to do with his ownership of a really big TV channel he owns? Just say yes or no if you want. I know we can't talk about it here.

He actually sold the Channel to Viacom in '03, but he still was the head honcho there until '05. But to answer your question... Yes! I also have other more recent reasons to not care for him, but reasons within what you mentioned are my reasons.

I wonder if there is any possibility of revisiting this trade in the offseason? Whats the deal with ownership? When will the team be sold/new owners put in place?

The owner logic doesn't sit well with me. They weren't taking on extra long contracts, or even more money in the short term. We were on the short end of both of those angles.

    Makes no sense at all.

I agree. It crossed my mind that both times might be Jordan's doing. He might have just changed his mind because he didn't want to risk losing a trade to Larry Bird. Jordan was all world, but reports are he has an all world ego too.

Last year it was Tinsley, Foster, and Rush, Daniels, or Graham (who they ironically signed) for Felton, Nazr, and Sean May.

I liked the previous proposal better than this one, but I would've rather not include Rush and Henderson in the deal.

The only part about the proposed trade I didn't like was giving up Rush. But I would have gotten over it, it's not like he's been great at all.

But, that being said this season sucks, and of course we're not going to get any breaks.

I don't know if I am the only one who think that the Pacers have been using the Bobcats for the last two years to pretend that they were going to make a trade in the last 10min. Teams don't talk about the players that were going to be traded and once again they write about the other trade that did not happen, this seems suspicious to me.

I rather would've just thrown Henderson and Rush out of the deal all together, but I'm not sure if the Bobcats still do the deal without Rush. Henderson doesn't have NBA range from the 3 pt. line. Plus, I think Rush has a higher upside.
