Default Open Big Ten Tournament Thread

PU-Northwestern follows after Ill-Wisc, which is crucial for the Illini.

    Last meeting vs. NW:

    Smith 18 min, 0 pts, 0-5 FG, 0-5 3PA, 0 Reb, 0 Ast, 0 Stl, 0 Blk, 4 fouls
    Byrd 8 min 0 pts, 0-3 FG 0-3 3PA 0 Reb, 2 Ast, 0 Stl, 0 Blk, 1 Foul

Bench and shooters will have to step up bigger than that for Purdue to win today.

By the way, if by some miracle, Purdue wins BTT, and Duke stumbles, could the Boilers get a 1 seed?

Yeah Michigan should have pressured more, but Turner still hit a 40ft shot to win the game. The kid made a tough shot, it's tough to lose that way, and of course the Michigan coach will be questioned, but you have to like your chances of winning if it comes down to a 40ft shot.

    Just didn't work out

How do you defend 5 on 4 and still fail to pressure?

Still, that's a hell of a shot by Turner. May he have many opportunities (say, 41 ) to hit big shots @ Conseco next season.

ya good point--with three seconds left, the inbounds man isnt going to make it downcourt for a shot, so double the man with the ball, esp if it is Turner!

wisc at 28 pts w 10 mins to go...I think Ill needs to win one more to get into the dance, even if they pull this off

Huh? Has a top 25 team ever been left out of the tourney?

Wisconsin is already in the dance, regardless of how the BTT ends up. Illinois needs the good showing to get in.

I'm talking about Illinois needing to get into the final to get a bid.

edit: maybe not...Lunardi and Lavin say Illinois is a lock with the Wisconsin win

    edit2: spoke too soon? 56-54!

Yes. In 2004 Utah was ranked and not included in the field.

Four good games...now a very short turnaround for the semifinalists...1:30 and 4.

    I'll predict OSU 74 Illinois 65

    and Purdue 58 Minn 57.

Looks like OSU-Illinois will be another tight one...

Turner's ballhandling not NBA-PG-quality in this one.

edit: OOOhh... & Larry is in the house!

edit2: ET with the triple double 31-10 and 10TO!

That OSU/ILL game was great to watch. I hope Purdue can get a win and we can see an OSU/Purdue final.

On a comical side, I spaced that the tourney was going on and I had a client of mine that had an interview at a company pretty much right behind Conseco at Eli Lilly. It took us forever to get to our building and I had to park six blocks away. Needless to say we took a different route home.

Boilers are probably going to be a 3 seed, and I don't see them making it out of the second round...They just aren't even close to the same team without Hummel, he really is the guy that makes everything work for them.

They'd be lucky to be a 3...4 or 5 is more realistic, I think.

If both OSU and Duke win, does OSU or Syracuse get the fourth #1 (assuming UK, KU, and Duke as the others)?

Tough to imagine Cuse not getting a number 1 seed.
