Default What is a reasonable number of wins to expect?

Even though I think the Pacers have upgraded slightly this off-season, I don't think it is reasonable to expect 60-plus wins again. Last season's total came against a VERY weak eastern conference (except for Detroit).

Next season, Miami will be hard to beat. Detroit will be hard to beat. Despite losing Boozer, I think Cleveland will be harder to beat. There still are a large number of Eastern teams who I don't think will be hard to beat, and I think New Jersey will be easier to beat than they were last year.

Considering everything, I think about 57 or 58 wins is a realistic expectation.

59, you heard it here first. And we'll still win our division.

I expect 58-60 wins. The East was much better than the mediots and you are giving them credit for.

If anything the East may have stronger last year than this year. Except for Shaq most of the big FA movement has been either from the West to the West or the West to the East. The East lost Lamar Odom, Caron Butler, Carlos Boozer, Kenyon Martin and Tracy McGrady and only gained Shaq, Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley.

We can beat anybody on any given night. 82. Then again, anybody on any given night can beat us. 0.

    Yeah, somewhere inbetween that

Mid 50's would not be out of the question.

    so 54-64...

    I will say 58.
I think they might slow down a little, so they are not as banged up when the playoffs roll around.

I'll be the most positive person on the board and say 98.

82 regular season games + 16 playoff games

I agree with beast. 55 is about right.

By the way, some of you are given the Heat way too much respect.

55 wins is now the benchmark to be a title contender. Pacers, Pistons and Heat will all win 55+ games unless there are significant injuries.

    55-60 wins.

It will be hard to follow up on 61 wins but it is defentily not out of the question.

If the season started with today's roster, 49 to 54 is about the right range. One of the three best records in the East, but the fourth seed based on playing the same division as the defending champs (meaning we would face Detroit in the second round).

I expect Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Cleveland (provided they make some trades), Detroit, Miami, Orlando, and Washington to win more games than last year...

We also had the best winning percentage against the West last year of anyone in the league... I expect that to slip a little bit as well...

If we don't win over 50 games, there's a problem. I guess at this point I'm expecting high 50s with a chance of hitting the 60s again.

You have to be kidding me. 49? After a 61 win year, with virtually the same team? You gotta be freaking kidding. :

What'd you predict last year? 38?

I said 40-42. Thank God for the "fire", you can't prove that's what I really said.

I gave a range. Its too early to pinpoint an exact number. Its not that we've really gotten any worse. But we weren't the best team in the East post- Sheed. We've basically stood still, trading one sixth-man for another. Miami and others are improving.

At the very least, one could say our win total last season was padded somewhat because there were only two good teams in the East during the regular season. Miami and Milwaukee came on strong late in the regular season, but they weren't really factors early in the year. I don't think it will be a two-team race this season.

The Pacers set the bar pretty high for themselves this year following a 60 win season. Despite what other teams have accomplished this off-season, I have expectations of at least 60 wins again.

More importantly, I'm expecting a trip to the NBA Finals, irregardless of how many regular season "W"s we have (barring injuries of course). We all found out how much the best record in the regular season means last season.

Jay, I think you're letting the pessimist do a little too much drinking today.
Crap. I just realized that earlier today I said 55-60 wins in another thread. I need to fire my QC person.

I keep reading that many of the eastern conference teams have improved themselves.

not sure if you mean through trades/free agents or just through younger players geting better.

Besides the Heat who were going to be a 50-53 win team anyway, name for me one team that has improved themselves.

Let me go down the list:

Pistons: They are the same team as they were during the playoffs. They don't need to imrpove themselves. Same

Nets: Taken a major step backwards. Worse

Cavs: Losing Boozer really hurts. They wmight win a few more games thatn they did last seaon, but they are not going to be as good as they would have if they kept Boozer or at least got soemthing for him. Worse

Bucks: they might improve slightly due to younger players getting better, but what moves have they made that improves them. Same

Sixers: Better coach, if they are healthy, they will be better. But I don't see them are contenders. Better

Wizards: they have talent last season, but horrible chemistry. They should be better, but then they should have been better last season. Better

Magic: They have made the most changes, and will wion more than 21 games. But the pacers should still be able to go 3-1 against them. Better

Raptors: Different coach. I don't see them getting better. Same

Bulls: Who knows they should be better. Better

Hornets changed to Bobcats. Much worse

Hawks: 28 wins they might win 35 games at most. Slightly better.

Knicks: I see this team as being a mess. Houston is still having knee problems. They have some talent. Same

Celts: different coach who IMO is not any better than there former coach, O'Brien Same

    have I missed any teams.

here is the bottom line, although I doubt anyone is still reading, raise your hand if you are.

Nets much, worse, Hornets gone, Heat better. Everything else is just noise.

    Am I missing soemthing.

The west has gotten better. Lakers have not, Spurs, T-Wolves, Mavs and Kings are the sme.

But with Hornets now in the west, Suns, Jazz, and Nuggets all improved.

West is better, east is not except for the heat

As of right now, 56-60 seems about right. Three team horse race and a bunch of scrubs that should be taken out behind the barn and shot.
