Please tell me that this isn't true?!!! Next season, too?!!!

I will burn the remaining season tickets I own and refuse to purchase them next year unless JOB is gone.
Don't feel bad. I made the same initial mistake. I thought he was only extended for this season.

JOB will be let go within a week after the season ends. Book it. I dont think theres anyone, including JOB, that doesnt believe that.
I'd hold you to that, but whats the point?

    Bird won't fire O'Brien, he's too stubborn.

Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

It just blows my mind when people mention that kind of stuff. The league is chalk full of hardworking assistants who have paid their dues, spent countless hours working with players, breaking down film, helping to run practices, going over scouting reports. Those guys deserve a chance.

Oh, but Mark Jackson sounds so articulate on TV and Antonio Davis is just a great guy. Give me a break. It's that exact same logic that the Detroit Lions used to hire Matt Millen as a GM (he had zero previous experience as a coach, scout, executive or player development guy). Those guys have proven nothing in the coaching ranks. It's an insult to the guys who have actually put in the work and gained the experience.
How would you guys feel about Patrick Ewing? He'd be a good mentor for Roy, and he's paying his dues as an assistant.

    Interesting.

He looks like the Cro-magnum man, and, quite frankly, I tend to think he's not intelligent because of that.

He's probably very smart and might just make a great coach.

Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.

I can't stand Avery Johnson, he's an annoying little twit. I'd take just about anybody over JOB at the moment, but we can and should do better than Avery.

No Mark Jackson either, I'm open to just about anybody else.

I want a coach with a winning record and playoff experience, Avery Johnson fits that to a tee. He knows how to get players to defend as well. That Mavs team that went to the finals was one of the best defensive teams in the league. Before him the Mavs were the GSW warriors on hyper drive under Don Nelson. Also he is a players coach. Which is something this team needs. JOB is not a player's coach. I don't even think the players respect him, and there isn't a leader on the team who can make the players fall in line. When that happens you need a guy the players will work hard for.

    Bird should sign him now.

Oh and please no Lawrence Frank, that guy had never coached a 50 win team. Even with Kidd, Jefferson, and Carter in their prime! He could not get a 50 win team, and they only made it to the 2nd round.

Go back and read the comments from Mavs fans when Avery was let go - they grew to not like him in Dallas and the players were really sick of Avery.

I thought Avery did a nice job myself

I was watching the Avery Jhonson interview on PTI and they asking about how bad he wanted to come back to coaching and he responded by saying that he was ready, that coaching is his passion and is waiting for that phone call, should the pacers fire JOB and give AJ a call. What do you guys think? could he be a good coach for the pacers?
Why do you always spell Johnson that way? Obviously you do it on purpose, did I miss the joke?

What we've seen from Avery so far is that he's a one-trick pony.

He took over the team Nellie assembled, screamed at them about being tough and playing defense, then got totally outcoached by Nellie with a team that Nellie didn't really assemble.

I'd rather have Nellie. And relative to Avery, I'd rather be poked in the eye.

(And for the record, Jim is turning into a a kick to the crotch. So I'd rather be poked in the eye if that is my only choice.)
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you

Guys rag on Obie for stifling the young guys (and i don't necessarily disagree), yet we see Byron Scott's name being tossed around.

    Oh well.
