    Default Colts Working Out Corners......

    http://www.indystar.com/article/2010...to-Miami-early

    Checking out corners

The uncertain status of rookie cornerback Jerraud Powers has led the Colts to look for a possible replacement for Super Bowl XLIV.

Earlier this week, the team either worked out or visited with free agents Jason David, Mike McKenzie and Jack Ikegwuonu. Last week, the Colts looked at veteran Deltha O'Neal.

David was a 2004 fourth-round pick of the Colts who signed with New Orleans as a free agent after the '06 season. McKenzie is a 12-year veteran with 28 career interceptions. He appeared in five games with the Saints this season before being released.

Powers missed the AFC title game with a left foot injury. He has not practiced this week

    Please, not Jason David.

I know he's probably somewhat familiar with some members of the team and the system to some extent. But I still have visions of how badly he was burned on a consistent basis.

The Saints know about him too. I'm sure they remember when Peyton repeatedly picked on him in the Colts' 41-10 victory over the Saints in 2007. And after all, he's no longer with the team.

Wow, can you imagine being with a team for 1 week and having a shot at a Super Bowl ring for it? That would be insane.

I didn't think you could add anyone at this time though.

If you drop below the 53 man active roster, you can add someone to fill it out, even in the playoffs. So they can, but someone has to be released or go on IR first, and it doesn't necessarily have to be Powers.

Powers should play, so I doubt this is an issue.
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

Didn't we keep Vineteri (sp?) active? Obviously (if that is the case) we could use his spot to add some added depth to the defense.
Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.

The Colts need to run away from David. He was ok as a system guy in our cover 2, but if he has to play man to man for
    coach purses

, the receiver wins that all day every day. McKenzie would be a bad nlf draft pickup. I was thinking that the whole time I watched the Saints pummel the Pats.

But on the flip side this could be bad news about Powers’ status

I think McKenzie is a really interesting idea. He actually played pretty well for the saints this year and I was surprised they let him go when they got their starting corners healthy again.

And what would be going through his head. I think he's played for the Saints for most of his career. And then for one game, he is playing against them for the super bowl. That would be one heck of a storyline.

edit: a quick check shows he played the first half of his career for green bay. Been with the saints since 2004. Still interesting though.

Out of all of those guys, I'd stay away from David if possible.

McKenzie and O'Neal would both be solid guys to put in nickel/dime packages although you have to worry about their speed from age/injury against the Saints speedy wideouts.
