Default OK, let's get it going early...

Well, we have a full two weeks to dissect every possible angle of Colts vs. Saints so let's get it going here. First, there's a poll if you would like to participate. There's a lot of angles to work here:

    1. Peyton going back to the big one, trying to cement his legacy even further as one of the all time NFL greats.
    2. Brees searching for redemption after being forced out of SD. I would bet anything he was secretly hoping he'd get to beat SD in the Super Bowl.
    3. Peyton returning to his hometown to face his dad's old team. Pretty sure we know where Archie's loyalties lie, but it won't stop the NO fanbase from making it a HUGE deal.
    4. The people of New Orleans rallying around the Saints like no other fanbase ever has in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
    5. The Colts trying to quiet the critics who are still angry that they didn't go for 19-0.

I'm sure there are more so feel free to add as you see fit.

I actually preferred this matchup to the Vikings because that front 4 of the Vikings is truly terrifying, and Jared Allen is one of the few players in the NFL that could swallow Manning whole. It's too bad Jason David isn't still showcasing his "ability" for the Saints so Peyton won't have him to pick on. The Colts have beaten every type of team there is and won games in every fashion you can this season. I think they have what it takes on offense and defense to beat the Saints. This one should be a good game. Two # 1 seeds, both well rounded teams, and both play a similar style. My pick is:

    Colts 31
    Saints 27

Oh, and where are our resident Saints fans? I know we have at least one since Trophy said these are his two fave teams but Saints first and foremost. Stand up and be counted Saints Fans!

You guys know a lot more about football than I do, but the Saints "scare" me somewhat.

Still, I can't think of any team that had a more impressive year thus-far than Indy, so that will be my tie-breaker to vote for them in a close win.

But this could go either way pretty easily; both teams are very good.

Anytime it's a one game, winner take all situation it has to make you slightly nervous.

That said, I have watched 4 Saints games in full this year, and they don't really scare me beyond that "anything can happen in 1 game" idea. Against the Vikings they were the beneficiaries of 6 fumbles and 2 interceptions. Even with all that help, it turned into an overtime game. They remind me of us, pre Super Bowl win, honestly. Should be a good game, but I fully expect us to win. I feel more confident in this team than I did the Super Bowl team.

It'll be interesting to see how anyone not named Darren Sharper deals with these 2 weeks. I think he's the only guy on their team with Super Bowl experience. We were lucky when we got there last time, we played the Bears who had as little experience as we did. Not the case this time, we have the experience advantage.

The score will not be that low for one..

Any team that can hang with the Colts offense at least has a chance of winning against them. Defensively they are better at taking the ball away which is not something to underestimate.

I think we are looking at a score of:
    41 Colts
    34 Saints

    Colts in a close game.

Although, it would help my heart if it was a Colts blowout

    Colts 45

    Saints 24

Legendary game by Manning. 5 TD passes, 400+ yards. Enough of this 'he's one of the best'. After this game, there will be no more 'one of'.

I wouldn't be suprised if they set records for scoring and yards. Once it gets going, the defense will be minimal. Lots of points, lots of yards, Colts by 10, 45-35.

There was a brief, and very decisive, and altogether unprecedented, outburst of genuine officiating, and it was directed at the best player in the world, and that, my dear young person, simply is not done."

Same script as we've seen all year.

Saints come in fired up and hitting on all cylinders, probably jump to an early lead like the Jets did.

Colts, like a boxer, will rope-a-dope. They'll take a couple punches, throw a couple, just get a feel of what they're up against.

Then the Colts' well-coached defense will make their adjustments and the Saints' offense will get stuck, get nervous, and get careless. At the same time, the Colts offense will methodically score TD after TD and the Colts will pull away as the unquestioned better team.

    Colts 37
    Saints 20

like in the last game... if the colts can score in the last two min/2-5 min of the first half the game should be in the bag...

Amazing play to score the last two playoff games the way they have in the last 2 min of the half, 3 touch downs in two games...

I agree with this, but a little closer final score.

Not one single vote for Saints in a blowout. I know that it didn't get to two TD's until late, but I think a two TD difference qualifies as a blowout.
