Default Kenyan Martin going to the Nuggets for 3 draft picks

Heard this on ESPN radio this moring. I guess it is on ESPN.com also, Stein and Aldridge is reporting.

If this is true, the Nets are no longer a threat in the Eastern conference. They'll make the playoffs.

So who is the 4th best team in the east?. I don't know. There is a major dropoff after the top three. each of the top three will win 55 plus games and the 4th best team might win 45 games.

Are you kidding me? There has to be more to this story. I cant believe the Nets would take draft picks from a playoff team and with Kenyon the sky is the limit for the Nuggets.

    they tried to get Nene

    no deal

Martin was going to sign with Denver straight up, and NJ didn't want to pay him, so they got SOMETHING.

Personally I'd rather have 3 Denver draft picks than have Scot Pollard, and yes I'd consider Martin and the Brad guy to be similar in ability/productivity/value.

    Bye bye NJ...

Detroit, Indiana, and Miami are clearly the top 3 teams.

Keep in mind if NJ had kept KMart and Cleveland still had Boozer, this would be a TOUGH conference. But they don't, so YAY.

My preseason top 8 teams THUS FAR:

    1. Detroit
    2. Indiana
    3. Miami
    4. New Jersey
    5. Cleveland
    6. Milwaukee
    7. Atlanta
    8. Boston

Sad, when your last 2 teams are Atlanta and Boston...
Don't ask Marvin Harrison what he did during the bye week. "Batman never told where the Bat Cave is," he explained.

Only one of the 3 picks are the Nuggets. The other two are from teams that won't be as good as the Nugs.

    The Nets are slashing costs

Orlando? They might fight for that 4th spot.

Orlando is a possibility, but I don't see them going any higher than 8.

Yeah but they were also spouting a Kobe to Chicago scenario.

So...if Kobe went to Chi and Damp went to either NY or Atlanta, how would you then rate teams???

We'll worry about that when that happens, and I HIGHLY doubt either would. But if it did...I think it would be Detroit, Indiana, Miami, Chicago, NJ, Cleveland, NY, and whoever.

Well just about every team after Miami, Detriot, and Indiana sucks. So dont be surprised if they are at the 4th spot.

Yeah, that is kind of sad. The conference as a whole is still weak enough that with or without K-Mart NJ is 4th best. Only now instead of:

    Det
    Ind
    Mia
    NJ
    -
    -
    -
    -
    -
    5th and below

    it's now

    Det
    Ind
    Mia
    -
    -
    -
    -
    -
    NJ
    5th and below

The nets are talking again of trading Kittles and Aaron Williams for Rahim.

if they are losing Kenyan, they better make this deal. If they make the deal they might win 47 games instead of 44

If the Nets don't insist on Skita in addition to the picks, they are penny wise and pound foolish.

All fine and all. We are either the 1st or best 2nd team in the east at the moment I would say, but I say we better make sure we finish with the best record in the east again. Reason: the new division outlook, which now puts the 2 best teams in the east in the same division! That sucks for us and Detroit. Certainly if you consider how weak those other divisions in the east seem to be.

Yep, a pick from the Clippers and one from the Wizards, as well as one from the Nuggets.

If they are not lottery-protected, they could be valuable.

I can't believe none of you people mentioned NY.

If NJ doesn't get a good power player, I think the Knicks have the Atlantic locked up.

I see the Hawks, Knicks, Celtics, and Raptors being surprises...I could see any one of them being 4th, maybe even 3rd if all goes well.

    And no, I'm not blind.

I think Orlando will come back to at least a .500 team, maybe more if (the mighty if) Hill plays.

all 3 picks have all sorts of lotto protection.

The Nets will get a 2006 first-round pick from Denver that is protected for the top five in that year, the top two in 2007 and unprotected in 2008. They also will get draft choices that originally belonged to Philadelphia and the Los Angeles Clippers.

The 76ers' pick is protected for the top eight in 2005, the top five in 2006 and unprotected in 2007. The Clippers' pick is protected for the top 14 in 2005 and unprotected in 2006.
it's conceivable that nets won't get any pick until 2006. though it's possible that they get the sixers' pick next year. it really is just a cost-cutting move...
