    Default Pacer talk from HW

    http://www.hoopsworld.com/Chat.asp?CHAT_TOPICS_ID=729

    Eric P in Naptown:
Hey Coach, have you read the new best seller by Jim O'Brien/Larry Bird? Its called "How to completely destroy a franchise in 3 years or less."

    Anthony Macri:
I have like 5 different Pacer questions from different folks (or at least from people with different usernames). I decided to answer this one because I thought the question was pretty funny. Hard to tell what direction Indiana is going in, but remember that all franchises have to go through rough patches before returning to prominence. Indiana is defintely in a lull. Would like to see some definitive moves that put them in the "we know what we're doing and everyone else can watch us." Right now it seems they are in "we're not quite sure what we want as a franchise so we'll just do it quietly and hope no one pays attention" mode.

    That is food for thought

    Eric P in Naptown:
Coach, how about this idea for the all-star weekend. 1 on 1 competition. Kobe/Wade, LeBron/Carmelo, C.Paul/D.Will by 1's first to ten wins. Like or not?

    Anthony Macri:

Would absolutely love an NBA 1-on-1 tournament. Make it like the NCAA tourney - invite 64 players of all shapes and sizes, seed them randomly, and play to 21 by 2s and 3s. Would be a ton of fun. Losers out, use a ref, etc. Make it so, Commissioner Stern - make it so!

jaimeson trocheck in virginia beach, va:
with mo out 4-6 wks, u think cavs might go after wing player, like iggy, instead of a stretch 4 like jamison? lbj can run point with mo out, and play 4 with iggy in. matchup probs for everyone! plus powe's comin back.

    Chris Perkins:
    Jaimeson,
No, I think the Cavs go after the stretch 4. It's a bigger need. Troy Murphy would be a great fit. Antawn Jamison would work, too. I don't think they go for a backcourt player because Mo will be back long before the playoffs.

    Eric P in Naptown:
Morning Chris. Have you read the new best seller by Jim O'Brien/Larry Bird? It's called "How to completely destroy a franchise in less than 3 years". I hear its a phenominal read!

    Chris Perkins:
    E,
I have read it. It actually reads more like something by Stephen King. Bird has had some tough choices to make. Artest is gone. Jermaine O'Neal is gone. Stephen Jackson is gone. Jamaal Tinsley is gone. The Granger-Murphy-Dunleavy trio isn't enough. Brandon Rush? Not enough. I was shocked at how bad they looked at Miami a few days ago. They got beat by 40 or so. That was after getting beat by about 30 the first time they played. Not sure what they're gonna do.

I like the idea of a 1-on-1 competition only I'd make it 3-on-3. It could either be 3 teammates or 3 randonly selected players from the NBA paired together. Frankly, I like the random pairing better, but wouldn't mind seeing 3-man franchises going head-to-head. The only limitation I'd put on it would be that the teams must have a Big man - Center or PF. This way, the 3-man teams aren't stacked with all Guards.

Just play H-O-R-S-E ... oh, yeah, they already do that in the main game.
